Another Cheap Potshot Strike!
I went to the Tampa Hard Rock today on my weekly video poker outing and had one crazy day. I was down about $200 when I decided to go to the high limit slots for a $20 pot shot on the $5 machines. I immediately hit a wild royal for $125 and a 5-of-a-kind for $75 and was back in business. This went on all day. I would lose my tail playing max coins then crawl back to the high limit machines and catch back up. About 3 PM I hadn't hit a quad deuce so I decided to give my trusty $5 machines another shot before I went home. About 3 hands in I hit this beautiful $1,000 quad deuce. I punched the max coin button and up popped this $625 Wild Royal. I hit another $125 Wild Royal and went home with $1,600 in my pocket. This is the third $1,000 quad deuce these machines have given me this year and the second $625 wild royal. I'm thinking about take one of these machines home with me.

Congrats Phil. It's nice to see the big hits at the end of a visit instead of at the beginning. Your timing was impeccable.

Great hits Phil. That is why I play Deuces 90% of the time now. You can be down and almost out then get these flurries. The same is rare in job and without the Royal in job, you are finished most of the time. I am heading up to Mohegan later tonight and will play until dawn or so. If airport deuces fails, I will try one of my favorite poor paytable machines. You may even like it yourself. 25/16/13/4/3/2/1. I like it because I don't have to hold the 2 pair hoping for the elusive full house. Long term of course it will get you, but short runs with this paytable have been good to me over the years. In particular, I have found this paytable to be good on multi hand or spin games. No problem getting it either on the lower denomination machines. I even see it on 5 dollar machines too. I like to use it on the lower ones though. My least favorite paytable on this game is 20/12/9/4/4/3/2/1. Never do well on that one for some reason. Hate getting paid 20 for the wild royal.

Congrats Phil, have someone take a picture for us of you wheeling one of those machines out of the casino.

Good stuff Phil! Not a bad win for a quarter player. Finally I see a hit with max bet $5 credits hand.

I wouldn't define Phil a quarter player ($1.25 per hand) if he is betting up to $25. Unless 80% his bets are literally 1 quarter a hand. I'm not sure what he's betting. He's definitely not posting any $62.50 royals on the forum though.

As my bankroll has grown, I am now able to play max coin quarters all day. I play max coin quarters if the pay schedule is over 98%. I only use the $5 machines as a supplement to my regular play. I currently don't have near the bankroll or intestinal fortitude to play max coins on $5 machines, so I use the Cheap Strategy to play these machines and only do this about once an hour. I play $20 at a time at single coin $5 and do not switch to max coins until the counter reaches $125. Often, I find a $5 machine with a small run going on. I set mental stop limits and frequently cash out with a small win. Once in a great while, I am able to play more than a few max coins hands at the $5 level and that's when things get really exciting. I realize all this goes against the so called normal play strategy, but it works for me and I'm not changing any time soon. As far as the "too bad you were playing short coins" post, I think a $1,000 single coin $5 quad deuce plus a $625 wild royal is a pretty good return for a $20 bet. P.S. Ponder this for a minute. What if I had drawn a forth deuce on the second hand? I would have turned my $20 into $6,000!

$625 on the royal flush w/deuce is nice, but I wonder how many would have taken the shot at 4 deuces for $5000??

Um, me for one. I know that flies square against common sense but then again, I'm guaranteed 4 of a kind or even a straight flush or a different wild royal. Oops, forgot about the 5 of a kind too...
