Re: RNG Questions

Post by OTABILL »

From what I've read, slots, including vp) machines use Pseudo Random Number Generators (PRNGs) as opposed to True Random Number Generators (TRNGs). That may or not be true for all machines today. Perhaps Webman or someone else can comment on this matter.

For what they do, I don't believe there is any difference between the results you will get from either type.

Due to my CRS condition, I don't remember what RNG means.
Random Number Generator

A random number generator is a device that generates a sequence of numbers or symbols that cannot be reasonably predicted better than by a random chance. Wikipedia

Random Chance? Where's the part about Odds, Skill, Discipline or Bankroll? :?:
Those have nothing to do with the RNG. Those have to do with players' decisions on how to play the game. The RNG doesn't care if you play 6/5 JoB perfectly with a tiny budget, or 9/6 JoB terribly with a huge budget. It just constantly spits out random poker cards for you to hold or not hold.

OK. Here's a theoretical question. If everyone played the same game with the same skill, bankroll and discipline, would their results be different? Wouldn't that depend on the number of hands each player plays?

For example, if a player only goes to the casino one day a year, odds and skill don't matter as much as someone who plays 300,000 hands a year. What happens on the first hand each player played is practically all luck. The results at the end of 300,000 hands are influenced by the player's skill, bankroll and discipline.

I disagree.

The world's greatest video poker player is playing next to a complete novice. They both play their first hand. The novice is dealt a royal. Was it luck or skill?

False. I never sit next to novices.

What difference does it possibly make?
Two guys go fishing. One is an expert, the other one is a novice. What color is the boat?
Does it matter?

Neither one.

2 people sit down to play. The very first hand, player 1 is dealt 2♠️ 4♥️ K♠️ 7♦️ 9♦️. Player 2 is dealt Q♥️ A♥️ J♥️ 10♥️ K♥️. Drawing doesn't matter in this scenario. According to you, player 2 is the "lucky" one. But why? Because it pays and the other doesn't? Both have EXACTLY THE SAME ODDS of being dealt. If the first hand paid and the other didn't, is that guy now "lucky"? If so, why?
