*** out with a bang ***

I have been following the developments in the new tax code pretty closely. It looks like jackpots in 2018 and beyond will be taxed at both the state and federal level. I simply don't have enough deductions to be able to itemize with the standard deduction going to $24k. With that in mind, a few days before New Years, I gave the 5 Star one last shot playing QQ.

Less than $200 and ten minutes later:

I was shocked. My first conversion from 3 in several years. I left up $3678.80 for my best day of the year. This brought the final tally for the year to +$777.45.

Total visits: 96 (33 were FP only)
Profitable visits: 64
FP redeemed: $1928
Points converted to FP: $104.75
Handpay: 9
Handpay taxes and tips: $900ish (the state made more than I did)
Highpoint +$3033.81
Smallest winner: .68
Biggest loser: -$2495.75

I never won a raffle, despite having a large amount of entries. But maybe they called my name after I left. I'll never know.

The only comp with much value was the Vegas package. Otherwise, I received 2 carryouts for two people, 3 bags of chips, 9 bottles of soda, one mediocre dinner buffet and one for lunch. Oh yeah, and a tin of popcorn.

Next year I am sticking to quarters.

Wow. I wouldn't have the nerve to keep track that closely. Glad you ended on the plus side. For a moment there it looked like you were going to need a shovel. Thanks for the stories.

Here's wishing everyone royals. Happy 2018.

Who wants to explain to a green IRS agent straight out of college why they don't have to pay taxes on a royal flush?  I've been audited before.  Not for gambling revenue, for business deductions.  When it was over I owed the IRS nothing.  My CPA fees were $5K!
Next year I am sticking to quarters.

Next year I am sticking to quarters.

I've been told that trips that only involve the collection of free play will kill you.
What is your experience with this?

billryan, I'm not sure. I did always have to run it through once. Then whatever it yielded, I took home. My mailers were by far the best after my horrible losing streak. Because I had busted out, and wasn't going to be playing, I didn't care what happened to my mailers. $40 FP for 10 minutes of my time was too good to not stop for it.

When my luck turned around, my mailers never did get close to the "bad times" - despite more (or at least similar) coin-in. So all I can assume is that results factor in to the FP amount you get. Indeed, after a long winning streak I was a half step from receiving no mail at all.

The gals at the booth wouldn't, or maybe couldn't, give me any information other than "it is based on play". One did however say that current mailers were based on play from 3 months ago.

I do know that CET properties will cut you off real quickly if you make more than a few "FP only" visits.

I won't lie, there was a few times when I really wanted to forget about a terrible day and not put it in my ledger - but I always did.

Everyone likes jackpot stories and pictures, but I wanted to show the other side of VP too.
