[/quote]No, I am saying just the opposite.  Jackpots happen irregardless of the game odds.   I have told this story many times on this forum.  I once played NSU (99.7%) quarter Deuces Wild for three days in Reno Nevada.  It was a complete and utter blood bath.  I lost nearly $1,500.  For our anniversary we drove over to the Harrah's in Lake Tahoe.   The first morning in Tahoe I played a 96% Deuces Wild game and held two cards that VP math told me not to hold.  I hit a royal flush on a crappy game with two wrong cards.   This happens all the time.  Game odds and  jackpots are not related.

[/quote]Seriously?   I probably play more VP than any other non professional player on this forum.   On second thought, Olds442jetaway probably has me beat.  I enjoy walking around the casino.  I see at least one royal a day.  Most of them are hit by people who can hardly feed money into the right slot.  A while ago I was sitting next to a guy who's machine locked up and he asked me why.  When I looked over to help him you guessed it, a dealt Royal Flush Progressive.   It takes absolutely NO skill to hit a royal flush.  It's luck each and every time.

FP - I disagree with this statement completely. It does take skill to hit a royal flush, absent one being dealt on the initial draw. Understanding the difference between holding 4 to a royal against a pat flush when it is advantageous to do so or holding 3 to a royal against holding 4 to a flush or even discarding all 5 cards on the initial draw, again, when it is advantageous to do so, absolutely requires *some* skill. The push of a button on a slot machine with no additional decision that leads to a favorable outcome or the placing of any bet on roulette that leads to a favorable outcome would be examples of pure (good) luck if we're all being as intellectually honest as possible.

Agreed. I will amend my comment to state that it takes some skill for a player to place him/herself in the best possible position to increase the likelihood that a royal will result after the initial draw. Fair enough?

It does take skill to play video poker that we on this forum have. I saw a person with a couple others sit down at a VP machine and play it like a slot machine (no holds, just keep hitting deal). Then one of them saw others holding cards. They tried that and then they left.

I once watched two people in the high limit room play $10 Deuces Wild as fast as they could put money in their machines.   All they did was hold the deuces.  The girls with the W2Gs were lined up in a row to have their forms initialed. I never saw them hit a royal or a quad deuce, but it was quite a spectacle.  I always wondered where they got their money and if they made a profit.  This was back around 2008.  Maybe they cleaned out the office safe and were going for broke?  I think they made it...

Three of a kind after a two deuce non casino hold drives me insane. I couldn't play DW long term. Feels good to know FP has nearly abandoned it too for different reasons.
