Just another lucky pot shot at Mohegan Sun

Sometimes I don't even bother to use a
player's card, the benefits are minimal around these parts so sometimes I
like to play without it.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Good point. But they allow the casino to monitor your time and enthusiasm. Last night I got an email from CET. They must have seen how much I increased my play recently, which triggered an incentive. I got a 1000 TC gift effective September 30. They said that they want me to hit Platinum this year. Sure, that means about $5,000 of losing! With this, 2,670 TC.

When I Used my players card in the optimal machine bank (over 100% vp) games, after I did that a few times, the wrath of the casino commenced.....I get no more mailers, no more free play, only 1 point per $4 coin-in no bonus/multiplier ($1 in equals 1 point: 1,000 points=$1 cash back), and machines close to the exit doors so cold in the winter and hot during the summer, and far away from the drinks and cocktails, and non-smoking (may not be a bad thing)...SO...definitely a price to pay to play optimal games, but after the math, their best full point game, 8/5 BP, still is sub-par.

Had a nice overnight with the Mrs. last night, but the play was a bust for both of us. Tomorrow nite, I will be heading up to Mohegan and staying over, but splitting my play at Mohegan and Foxwoods. Have free play at both. Neither of us hit any premium hands either last night or this morning.

They fixed that problem here years ago, I used to play 10/6 DDB now the best you can find is 9/6, most of it is 9/5. It's against the law to have positive expectation games in these parts, not sure why but it is actually against gaming regulations.

I added up the percentage cost on all of the common errors players make on draw poker games. On a 99% game, I think on average, the casino rakes in at least 5%. I'm not even counting things like sticky buttons, crazy mistakes made, and other machine malfunctions. At least in Ct., about 9% is the rake the casinos get from slots and vp is unfortunately lumped in to that number as vp machines are really considered to be nothing more than slots. I think the casinos getting away with lowering paytables overall is due to a number of factors. First, most players are clueless on odds, paytables, and the like. Second, they rake in so much from the newer animated and graphic penny machines ( people play at 4 bucks a spin ) that vp isn't as productive as slots in the same floor space. Third, the younger set for the most part just doesn't play much vp. They drink, play table games, and slots and except for a few, pass by vp entirely. Look around the vp area. All you see is gray hair or no hair. Lastly, and I really don't want to be chastised for this statement as it is just based on my observations....most minorities and almost all people with a lower level of education tend to just play slots. There are of course exceptions, but I am sure I am correct in that statement for the most part. I have a couple of personal exceptions from some years ago. I used to play many times a year right next to two doctors that were both minorities. They were both specialists in their field and well known. One was of color and the other nationality. They both had near photographic memories for paytables and strategy even for games like one eyed jacks. I don't see them anymore. Ever since the casino quit paying points for 99% games in August of 2011, they disappeared. What brilliant players they were and perhaps still are playing somewhere else. They also had discipline like I never could muster.

[quote=olds442jetaway]Look around the vp area. Funny you mentioned that Phil. Only recently I have noticed the same thing. The age range for most of the ones that play vp at Mohegan would be about 35-50. The senior women are quite often with their husbands and quite a few of them play together. One couple who I know are pushing 80 I call the musical chair people. Every few hands they switch chairs and play just the one machine. This goes on for many hours. Both appear to be in excellent physical shape. They are quite friendly but if you are sitting right next to them, it can get a little annoying after an hour or so.

Just back from an overnight at Mohegan Sun. Not a bad trip at all. No DDS play this time, just the All Star spin poker machine. I decided to try and play conservatively but unfortunately that comes with a paytable price for a quarter game. I had to settle for 8/5 job. At least it paid 800 for 1 for the Royal as I hit one bottom line and one on an another line. It paid me 400 bucks and had I started playing 3 lines, but later in the evening switched to 5 lines. That is when I hit the Royals. I had been complaining lately too about not hitting one again. I don't like playing 8/5, but 5 lines only costs a buck twenty five a spin. That 800 for 1 for bet 1 is a life saver on low budget trips. Side note for Phil....the lady next to me was playing triple play deuces wild betting fifteen quarters. In the 3 hours or so we played next to each other, she hit quad deuces 4 times and one Royal. She started with fifteen bucks in free play, put none of her own money in and cashed out 1400 dollars. Nice. Her game had a bad paytable too.

I'm not even counting things like sticky buttons.--------------------------------------------------------------I simply avoid the sticky button dollar machine in the area now. Too much trouble at that denomination. Two or three of the six quarter JOBs are always sticky, so Russian roulette unless you want to try out all seven buttons, five cards plus the two deal/draw, before inserting card or funds.
