Try the 99 beer challenge at The Edgewater. I'm not up for that now. Perhaps 30 - 40 years ago the challenge would have been on.

Since they took their really good games out a few years ago, we don't bother much with either the Edgewater or Colorado Belle.

They do this now at restaurants also. When I was getting gouged at Panda Express, I was then asked if I wanted to donate to some charity in front of the 5 people behind me in line. I say "no". Like Doug, I'll choose the charities on my own. Panda Express already makes a fortune on the meals they sell and now they want a tax write-off via peer pressure at your expense. It's obvious to me that Penn Gaming would get credit for whatever charitable contributions are made through this and not the individual actually making the contribution. If Las Vegas residents regularly make a contribution this could add up to a nice deduction over the course of a year that they would not get credit for personally.

I cashed tickets at three different locations in the M today. Two did not have the donate to charity feature, and one did.

I didn't notice this. I typically cash out at one of the two ticket machines nearest Ravello, and they have the charity donation "bonus round."

Good to know there are still normal ticket machines.

It's interesting that Tropicana (the sister M property) does not have any ticket machines with that "feature." I guess their horrible paytables suffice for them.

Do you guys realize the pocket change from cashing tickets is all some people leave with? The casino is trying to deny it from escaping by making it difficult. People are going to take those odd cents and gamble them most of the time when influenced, basically inconvenienced in a passive aggressive way pushed to take these actions. The casino doesn't want to pay what is owed in a normal way.

Yes.
I was sitting near one of these charity ticket machines, and decided to take a break and watch what people did when confronted with that option.
I could see the screen, and not one single person did anything other than hit "no thanks." It made no difference if people cashed out for 20 cents or for $700.20, every person took that 20 cents.

They say misery loves company. From this thread, it seems misers do, as well. Three pages of *****ing about being asked to donate your pocket change.

Here's a simple question for you billryan: does donating your "pocket change" in a situation like this fly in the face of AP thinking?

Simple answer would be that pressing a no button wouldn't effect my Advantage Play or my EV one iota.
More complicated answer would be that I follow the Harry Chapin rule. One for me , one for them. One day I play for me, one day I play for one of several charities.
Life has been good to me and now I am able to pay it back in part.
I don't care if anyone contributes or not, that's up to them, but to go on and on about being asked, by a machine, if you'd like to contribute to a charity is just sad. I'd hate to see their reaction to a bell ringer at Christmas.

"Oh if a man tried to take his time on earth and prove before he died what one man's life could be worth I wonder what would happen to this world." Harry C.

I haven't posted in a while but I'm gonna chime in here. I don't want to sound cold hearted, but I for one am sick of everyone having their hand out. We are inundated with "donation requests" everywhere we go nowadays. " help end homelessness", " help end starvation", help end child poverty". All the money in the world isn't going to "end" any of this.
Non-stop commercials on TV, non-stop radio ads, endless requests at checkout lines. I don't blame DougJ for being irritated. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before this is in ALL casinos. Ridiculous. Enough already.
