Re: what do we want from casinos
The way the average player makes up for the casino edge in their games is the comps. But comps have to have value to the player for them to inspire any loyalty. Offering free rooms to a local is crazy.
If, like CET 7Stars, the value of a casino's premier player programs continue to diminish, the ability for a player to close that gap goes away. Less play results, so the comps are reduced further. Death spiral..
So, if a casino REALLY wanted to reverse the inevitable, they would need to allocate a little more of their 'take' to meaningful comps for their players. In addition, they would need to understand what a 'reasonable' edge would be, especially for VP.
Most casino players understand that the casino games need to give the casino an edge for them to operate. If you are fortunate to actually make a profit playing, that is great. But overall, it is not unreasonable for a player to expect that the comps earned would help offset the usual playing losses.
With the changes proposed by the IRS to track actual win/loss at a session level for machine players, it will be interesting to see if the casinos will use more of a win/loss metric, rather than just play and expected loss, to distribute player's comps.
