Re: trip to cherokee
Notes, the thrill is gone. I had my fun and am paying the freight the rest of the year. It's been a sobering correction. More of a comeuppance! Back to the fetal position.

you are sounding pretty glum, i am normally the negative one on this site. let me ask you a question, do you really believe that you are likely to be a winner, over the long term, playing casino games? if that is the case, i think you are setting yourself up for disappointment.

Notes, it's a negative expectation environment. We know that going in. Im just trying to keep annual losses to triple digits, as in 2014. Unfortunately, my volume has skyrocketed!

a $1000 loss over an entire year is pretty tough, less than $20 a week.

Yes it is. But setting goals motivates people to at least approximate them. Carpe diem. I've had a frustrating summer. My casino's full pay machines do not even function properly any longer. If it takes moving my act to Borgata and cheaping it out for three hours a la Phil, I will do just that. I will still be back for a nice swim at the same time. Hopefully I won't be washing off red ink in the Atlantic. When you come to a fork in the road, take it. Keeping the champagne on ice in South Jersey!

my best buddy introduced me to casinos. he started playing $2 craps, lost and went to .25 cent slot (total bet 1.25) lost and went to 90 cent slot, lost and for the last few years, plays 30 cent slots. very disciplined gambler and plays about twice a week. keeps his losses to about $200-300/mo, an amount he can easily afford. has a great time playing. and, every once in a while, he hits a couple of hundred dollar payout. drinks a couple of beers on the casino, gets enough comps for a free meal every now and then. he gets great value for his entertainment dollar.

That's sensible enough for him, and most people. I should count on a $150 a month loss plus whatever $25 free play a week nets, usually $25. Still talking $3,000 a year, which seems like a vast splurge. I can be more efficient. Primary revision is to stop thinking of full pay JOB as some kind of oasis or haven. The cold streaks are especially numbing, as there's not even a wild card to break up the monotony.

not trying to suggest what amount is acceptible loss for you or anyone else. used my friend as an example of someone who could afford to lose much more, but feels comfortable playing his 30 cent spins. stick to your budget and good luck.

Sure, I got that. It's been a bumpy ride lately, so I must employ loss minimization to have a good time and justify the trips. And like I said, the busted machines could be a blessing in disguise. I need a new place to reinvigorate me, instead of being content with the same old torpor. I get so caught up in the gambling that I neglect to order drinks. Once the losing takes over, I'm too upset to order. I really need to cheer myself up. So, new venue, new attitude. I'm determined to get over this malaise.
