Re: Martingale coupled with Jacks 9/6
I look at high limit video poker the same way I do sky diving. You can tell me my instructor is the greatest skydiver in the world. You can tell me I have the best equipment money can buy. You can show me a spreadsheet that says the odds of having a chute failure is one in a million. When I get to the door of the plane and look down, all I see is bloody holes from the people who jumped ahead of me. The pilot tells me "Go ahead and jump, APs do this every day!" No thanks.

So when the pilot told you to go ahead and jump, AP's do it everyday, did AP then stand for "Advantage Parachutist?"

Played a Mild Martingale clone overnight at Mohegan Sun Wednesday night. I had progressed up to 15 quarters. Held 2 deuces. Tossed the 4,5 of hearts and hit the quad deuces. This was an airport deuces game.

I can also see how these discussions could be confusing to an outsider. Someone who doesn't follow our posts would be totally confused. Should I play like "Dancer"? Should I take pot shots? Martingale? CS? Play Cheap? Bet Big and Run? Recreational players have the advantage of changing the game to be what they want it to be. Everyone is different, so there are limitless ways of approaching VP. A professional player relies on math to tell him/her how to play this game. At the other end of the spectrum, you have players who play purely for excitement. Everyone is somewhere between those two extremes.Over the years I have changed strategies many times. None of them made me a big winner. Some worked well at times. I have never had positive VP games to play and try as hard as I can, I still make an occasional error. I had the advantage of playing next to my wife who plays very slow steady and methodical. This gave the me the unique opportunity to compare strategies side by side. When I was playing CS, I was playing for excitement. Playing quarter CS, I could play all day for practically nothing. This freed up a lot of money for experimentation. CS gave me the luxury of walking up to a $5 video poker machine and playing $25 a hand with house money. I turned a $20 bill into a $1,000 white ticket numerous times. Playing this way is very similar to Martingale. While I was doing this, my wife would play quarter deuces wild all day. She never plays any other game and she never plays higher than quarters even when I encourage her to do so. She uses a slightly modified version of Dan Paymar's Optimal Play strategy. She wants to see more royals, so she keeps all non deuce two card royal flush hands. She has hit 3 royals this way, so it's hard to argue with her decision. Her cost to play VP is incredibly small. She will never get a W2G, but she plays VP for pocket change.I, on the other hand, could go through $500 in a few hours. My cost to play VP was significant. It didn't hurt me financially, but it did bother me psychologically. At the end of most years, my wife would come out ahead of me.Late last year I started migrating my play to be closer to my wifes. I gave up pot shots and I try hard to stick to quarters. I picked two games, Bonus Poker and Double Double Bonus. I start out with Bonus Poker. If quads are happening and I feel the need for excitement, I switch to the higher variance game. If I'm doing well and get the itch to play bigger, I move to 50 cent play. I stay away from the high limit room. So far this is working for me.If you are a Recreational VP player, there is nothing wrong with experimenting. How are you going to find out what works for you if you don't try? I strongly suggest you limit your experimenting to small amounts so you don't hurt yourself. "Bob Dancer" is not going to jump out of the machine and beat you on the head for doing something he wouldn't do. Some of the members of this forum will try, but you don't have to play like they do. They're not playing with your money, you are. Some forum members will say I am encouraging people to take dangerous actions. The actual truth is unless you are a totally committed professional insider "VP is not profitable." As a hobby or for entertainment, it can be a lot of fun. Never gamble with money you can not afford to lose. My son, who by the way is 50 years old, asked me if he should play VP. I told him "Look at that money in your hand. If you can walk into the bathroom and flush it down the toilet without caring, you can play. Otherwise don't even think about it."

I did pull the cord on the main chute, but it only opened part way. Ended up with just a few bumps and bruises, but came out intact. Won't have to hit the ATM next trip anyway.

Olds, I'm thinking about reviving a limited amount of $5 CS play. One day I am going to hit a $5,000 quad deuce and it will be my pleasure to post it on this forum for the next 10 years. By the way, my wife came home from the hospital yesterday. Her leg is in a splint and she has a broken arm. She won't be going to the Hard Rock for a while, so I'll be playing on this website. She will be OK. Thanks for the concern.
