Re: Finally a nice hit at Mohegan Sun
Double Down stud is a very hard game to find. The machines are old and as they wear out, they are not being replaced. The returns average between 97-98% for most of them. Since you don't have to hold cards and decide what to do other than doubling before your last card, you can play twice as many hands per hour as draw poker. That is what I like. It is like getting two sessions in the time frame for one. I have a flexibility as you can see of betting up to 25 coins which is very helpful when you have a decent bankroll and are playing catch up. I usually just try and hit one wild royal per session and bet accordingly. I think the casinos caught on to the die hard vp players like myself playing these machines for 10 hours at a time and maybe nearly 15,000 hands. Only the die hard players seem to play them. There are only a few left. They have been there since the casino opened and are fading fast. Just like the TV ads say.....when the're gone, they're gone....Finally, dealt quad deuces with bet 5 pays a grand after doubling which you would always do when you see the 3 deuces showing. If you are playing the bonus deuces game, you pay a penalty on 4 of a kind, but dealt quad deuces with the ace pays 2 grand for bet 5. Five aces pays big too as does low number 5 of a kinds on the bonus deuces game. On average though, you have to wait over 50k hands to be dealt the quad deuces. Going a couple of times a week though, I can hit them about every 2 weeks on average. I have so far never hit quad deuces twice in the same session, though I have hit quad deuces, 5 aces, and low number 5 of a kinds in the same session. I am down lifetime much less on this game than on draw poker in any form even with the lower paytables than 9/6 job.

These double down stud machines still exist at my nearest local, if they survived the last VP area adjustment!!! I haven't been back since I showed up and were currently rearranging that area.
58 units nationwide (if the 2 survived at my local). A whopping 16 of them at Mohegan Sun...
The only 3 in Nevada are at Harrahs LV and 2 at Harrahs Reno.

16 DDS at MS and I assume that the other 5 at Foxwoods. Connecticut may have 21. But NJ has 29! I assume that all are in AC. Can you do a casino rundown for me? I at least want to view them in person. They sound too intimidating and complicated to actually play. But I am curious to watch how successful players are at DDS.

To answer FAA's question about playing them, they are probably the easiest game to play of all vp games including job. It tells you if you are a winner after seeing your first 4 cards. Of course you automatically double after seeing you already won. After you double you see your last card. You can also play the game on this site. Unfortunately, at Mohegan Sun, most of the remaining machines do not offer deuces wild. At the quarter level, there are only 4 that I know of offering DW. There are several more at the dollar level, but the paytables are actually worse for regular deuces wild on the dollar machines.
There are a few simple rules to remember after seeing your first 4 cards where you have not already won. For example on regular deuces wild, always double when you have 4 to a flush and no wild card. Always double on 4 to a straight with one deuce. Do not double with 4 to a straight without a deuce. The rules are different for the other not deuces wild games, but really easy to learn. Also the paytables at Foxwoods on these machines are very poor. I can't answer for the last 3 years there, but last time they were bad and I see no reason they got any better up there.

Really, the best machine right now at Mohegan is the dollar All Star machine that pays 800 for bet 1 for the royal and returns 98.8 percent on spin poker for the bonus deuces wild game. There is only one of these. Overnight, it will usually be occupied by me. HeHe. Well that was until the gang read this post. Good luck all. I don't want to hog it anyway.

Atlantic City Machines
Bally's Atlantic City 6
Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa 3
Caesars Atlantic City 2
Golden Nugget Atlantic City 4
Harrah's Resort Atlantic City 9
Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort 5 (limited time only)
Foxwoods also has 5.
So basically the Northeast has the bulk of the machines.
Another regionally dominated niche is "3 Way Action Poker", which I also find quite fun. ALL 186 machines are in Nevada. Including 58 at Gold Coast, the "Home of 3 Way Action Poker". It actually says this in a hotel elevator. But I don't think I've ever seen more than 10 of them at once being played. 58 is WAYYYY too many for one casino. Orleans has 25... If I was Boyd, I would dump some units myself.

Great info. DDS does sound like an easy concept now that you describe it. I am typically in the Bally's/Caesars complex. Easy access to 28% of supply. After I see them I may even upgrade my membership here to practice.

I can only speak for the 3 times I've visited spanning Sunday through Saturday. I saw more people playing 3-Way Action Poker than any other game. People were chasing the progressive bank on 9-5 DDB.
There were plenty of empty seats on what are outstanding VP games near the Ping Pang Pong restaurant and at the high limit room. The 99.8% bank of 6 had no one playing too.

Nice to upgrade if you want, but you can play it on this site with a basic membership. I play it for fun quite often here. I finally after 3 years made it over to Foxwoods for a couple of hours last night. Met a friend there for a bit. I didn't have time to scout the whole place, but the vp odds I found were terrible. I did find one DDS dollar machine that had bonus dueces wild in there. I played it for about an hour and promptly dropped 200 bucks. They have All Star machines there too, but also with terrible odds in the 96 range. I will probably complete my scouting mission there next week. It was packed though and it was after ten on a Sunday nite.

Great to maintain basic. All I do here is chat. Foxwoods sounds like another nightmare. I thought -$100 in an hour of JOB was bad in my morning session. Lucky to claw most of it back after lunch on Sat. Two damn hours for a dollar JOB quad is just cruel! No complaints about finally piling up comps, though. And I met last week's grand prize Audi winner. At the high limits room cage of course. Bally's slot junkie somehow migrated next door. He is quite the local celebrity there.
