Does ANY casino want us back?

Post by DougJ »

Living here in Las Vegas, the past 12 months have been life-changing for us. Since the reopening of casinos in June of 2020, three months after a statewide shutdown, I've dramatically "renovated" my gambling habits. We go a LOT less frequently now, maybe three times a month. That will probably decrease even more.
Primary reason: it's just not fun any more. Plus, our perceived value of the gaming experience is greatly diminished. No more "free" buffets, my zero tolerance now for smokers (hey, did anyone read: this is a RESPIRATORY virus!), and insulting crappy pay tables now in former favorite casinos. Moreover, the tourists coming here are just ****.

I know we are not the only locals that feel this way. But, a recent column posted says it all:

In my case in Ct, welcome one minute, out with the trash the next. Micromanagement at its finest. I am not really complaining though. No smoke and a smattering of 99 percent machines that fit my betting style. I could do with some more consistency, but the bean counters think they have me figured out. I have news for them. They don’t. I don’t even have myself figured out.

99 and no smoke is okie doke! I’m also enjoying those conditions in AC. If I can somehow luck into a $4,000 or higher hit, they won’t see me back until June.

To me, 99 is extremely important, but luck us the name of the game. I can vouch for that after 25 years of losing Waymore than 1% and playing pretty close to perfect strategy. If I am careful the rest of the year, five years like this one would pay for the 25 others. But careful and discipline and luck is the name of the game. And I am not leaving out the math guys and gals. 99 With near perfect play is always the way to go in the long run

The best session is still a short one. I always got killed on hour three, and often on hour two. Time to make hour one stand proudly on its own. I’m tired of paying for the last two quads of a trip.

As life is just one long session, I certainly don't want it to be a short one.

When we set sail for Troy, I'm leaving you behind.

Good news at last! Welcome back, donors! We may be at 80% capacity. But we’ll seize 90% of BR! Only hours away from yet another bust session. Step right up! A buffet of losing opportunities await!

I will give some casinos credit. For me in Minnesota, it is well worth the just over 200 mile drive to Royal River Casino in SE South Dakota. 9/7/5 DB 99.11% and "Ugly Deuces" 98.91%. They care. A heck of a lot better than the 98% capped percentages here in Minnesota. In MN the best is 9/5 DDB 97.87% or 9/6/5 Double Aces and Faces 97.97%.

What is the break-even point where driving four hundred miles to play a 99.11 game is better than staying put and playing a 97.87 game with gas pushing $3 a gallon?
