Return to Colorado

Post by FloridaPhil »

We're flying out Sunday on a 10 day Video Poker trip to Colorado and New Mexico.  My wife just loves Black Hawk, so we're staying there for three days, then driving to Cripple Creek, Santa Fe and Albuquerque.  I was dealt two Royals last month one week apart.  Hope I didn't use up all my luck for this year!

Have a safe, fun and profitable trip. And congrats to you for your two dealt royals. I have a streak similar to Olds having never been dealt one. I've played surely over a million hands. You are supposed to get dealt one every I forget the number but I am way overdue. I have never even been dealt one in my practice sessions.

Keep us posted on how you do.

About 8 years ago I went three full years without any Royals at all, then got 4 in one weekend.   I've had three dealt Royals since I've been playing, two of them were last month.  Looks like it's going to be cool in Colorado next week.  OK with me, Florida's starting to heat up.

Unfortunately, in video poker, there is no such thing as"supposed to", or "due".

I actually had two. Both were in 2001 and on the Double Down Stud game so they were good for 5k each. Then about 5 years or so ago, I had one dealt on a 3 cent spin poker game while playing 12 lines good enough for a small hand pay. Has been pretty cold both winters and vp since. Phil, best of luck and enjoyment on this trip. I am working on a new system where I only play enough coins to be even or better if the Deuces hit on Deuces wild. I haven't decided yet if I will play it on regular Deuces, Bonus Deuces, or Double Bonus Deuces. I only mentioned it because if I remember correctly, we both like and play the Deuces Wild games. I am going to forget about the Royals for awhile. They are showing no signs of returning to " normal " frequency for the drawn ones and I am not even thinking about the once in every 700k or so hands for the dealt ones. The Deuces however, at least for now seem to be appearing right on schedule. Will see what happens.

I always start out playing max coin quarters to see what the session is going to be like.  If I go through $200 without cashing a ticket, I switch to single coin deuces with a progressive betting system.  With my system, $100 will usually last me the rest of the day.  Good hands can come out of nowhere, but normally I can tell what the day's going to be like after 1,000 coins or so. What kills you is pumping money into a VP machine all day and building up a big loss.   Royals are great, but highly overrated in my opinion.   If you're Bob Dancer, play only 100% plus games and have an unlimited budget, I can see it.  Otherwise, I think you need a lot of discipline and luck on your side.  I enjoy playing this way and love it when I don't go $1,500 in the hole.

Good luck Phil! Enjoy the "Not So Ugly Ducks" (99.73%) in Colorado while you can!

The Canyon Casino even has it the bar...man, I think need to visit Black Hawk too!

St. Louis hasn't offered "Not So Ugly Ducks" in years.

Good luck to you and your wife Phil. If you need someone to house sit for you in Florida please let me know. I don't eat much and I'll be sure to walk the dog twice a day too.

The Tampa Hard Rock has Airport Deuces at .50 and higher. It's about as good as it gets in Florida. It's my favorite $1 single coin game.  I've had a bunch of $1,000 quad deuce jackpots on that game using my progressive strategy.  Love it!  I see it's snowing in Denver.  Sounds like we'll get to play a lot of video poker. My wife is a Florida native and she just loves snow.  It won't be a problem driving as they plow the casino roads before anything else.
