trip to cherokee

Post by notes1 »

my last gambling trip was to AC in mid May and as reported, i lost $1900 over 2 night trip. just got back from Cherokee. went with the wife for a 13 hour gambling session, ate at their very good buffet, stay overnight and come home next am. as i am hearing from others, my free play offers have gone down, along with the rest of CET perks. played the first 6 hours, hitting many quads, nothing big and was up about $500, playing at my typical, single line quarter machines. really enjoyable to hit a lot of quads, it was fun. then took a break for dinner. if i was smart, like Ted, i would have gone to sleep in the car, but i am lacking in that disipline, so i went back to play some more. it is not a good excuse, but i have to drive 4 hours to go to the casino, so playing a couple of hours and quiting, just does not fill my twice a month addiction requirement. by midnight, i had lost almost all my winnings, serves me right. but, i was not upset, as i figured i had a good time, had a couple of free meals, nice free room to stay in, free valet, some free starbucks and the wife was watching a free movie in the room. i have also greatly lowered my expectations for a casino stay, so even losing just a couple hundred dollars, for what i get, seems acceptible. the new reality. it was midnight and i knew i had $140 of free coming, so i figured that would last me a hour, quit and be happy i broke even. after losing $70, i hit 4AWK on DDB ($500), went thru a couple other machines, hit 4 dueces($100), then went to my final bank of machines. played a couple and went to my final machine, hit 4AWK again, but this time on TDB ($1000). quit and went to bed, up $1500 for the trip. do not know the odds of hitting 4AWK twice within an hour but it has to be thru the roof. winning $1500 was terrific, but he best part of the trip was that first 6 hours, hitting a bunch of quads, even though there were no big wins. it was the most fun i have had in a long time. we all know the experience of going hour after hour hitting nothing.

Congrats notes, it's good to read some positive news from your world.

I agree about what you said about hitting quads; when they are coming, it's fun and keeps you in an upbeat mood. I would think the odds of hitting AWAK so soon after hitting them would be up there but you did switch machines so in that case the odds may not be so accurate.

Bottom line is that you had an enjoyable time and the trip turned out positive as well; a double win in my book.

Glad you had a good trip.  We like Cherokee.  There's only one casino and the restaurant choices are pretty poor, but the hotel and casino are enjoyable.  Your report brought back a lot of memories for me.  I used to play DDB exclusively.  I remember it as lots of pain and anguish with hours of total jubilation scattered here and there.  I remember one trip to Cherokee where I lost for two solid days only to win everything back in two hours the morning we left.   The new casino closer to Atlanta should be opening soon.  At least that will give us another choice. I drove by there last fall and they were moving a whole mountain side for the construction.  Should be nice.

phil, thanks and you are correct, cherokee has both good/bad points. like you, i have limited options, either play the nearest indian casino or get on a plane. one of the things i changed this year was to avoid playing at casinos that have a higher overhead, due to spending on attracting players, like tunica and the beau. nice to get the free trips, but in the end, i felt i was really over paying for that 'free' trip. the new casino opens by the end of the summer.  ted, also thanks. i guess i do come across as negative, but i simply like to post all results, good and bad. i remember first coming to the forum and only reading about the good stuff and wondering if i was the only one losing, that is why i do it. actually, this year, so far, has been my best net results in a long time. i believe i have made 10 casino trips, each trip with between 13-30 hours of gambling and i am averaging a loss of about $250-300/trip. that is way below the last few years and more than acceptible for the hours i spend to get my VP fix.  because i change machines everytime i lose $10 from the highest point achieved on any machine, you are likely correct, it may be harder to figure out any kind of probabilities. that is why even though i believe in the math on most things, i do not accept the math about all play is one continous event. rather, i look at each machine as a seperate occurance.

Nice to see the positive report about Cherokee. I'm heading there later today for an overnight with dinner on them at Ruth's Chris. Seems I go a long time between royal flushes at this spot, but I did eke out 2 in one day a few months back. I'm well above 2 standard deviations above average in # hands since last royal, so I sure hope this trip is another good one.good luck to all !

Nice trip report notes, it is good for you that you've got most of your money back from that AC trip. Agreed with Ted that you needed positive things to happen to you. I have not seen 4AWK in a while.

what is this new casino in the Atlanta area? Is it one of the three MGM is building out? I know one is Springfield, MA, and other one is near Washington DC.

good luck! you are a much higher roller than me, to get free meals at ruth's. long time between RF??, when you got two in one day, just a couple of months ago. i guess our definition of a 'long' time is different.

thanks. i have had two bad trips this year, tampa and AC. both were right near the $2k loss amount and both were 2 night trips. i have also beeen fortunate to have 2 good trips, both one dayers at cherokee, that were total wins of about $3400.  cherokee has almost completed their new, smaller casino, located about one hour closer to atlanta. but, it is still in NC. a lot of folks come to cherokee from GA, and this should  make it a little easier for them. as a lowly, low level diamond member, i can get a room almost anytime, anyplace, where CET has a casino, but not in cherokee. only s-th. because it is the only casino in the southeast, it is like they have a license to print money.  it is one of the most profitable casinos, because there is no competition.
