Does your casino have this type of announcement?
Mohegan Sun has been using this ridiculous semi "canned " announcement for several months now. I and other patrons find it extremely irritating. The short version is this...You hear the PA system come on and it says something like this....Did you hear that...another jackpot winner...etc. In the background, will play a few lines from a top 40 hit from the 60's or 70's. The music is OK, but I hate the announcement especially if one is having an off night. First I thought it was all fake, but both the Mrs. and I have tested it. When we hit our recent jackpots, the message did come on within a minute or so. Sometimes it will be quiet for a couple of hours and then there will be a flurry of jackpots. I just wish they would stop it already. Is it just me or would you guys and gals find this irritating as well?

I've heard that announcement in some of the Hollywood casinos Olds and yes, it gets to a player if they're not winning themselves.

It seems more common in the smaller casinos, I do find it irritating, especially if it's for $600. Call me when someone wins 10Gs or more...

Heck no. What a pathetic hick move imposed ideally to hypnotize easily subjected rubes! ROTF. Do they actually announce amounts too? If they simply must continue with such contemptible puffery, they should only announce $1200 minimum. At least patrons would have the satisfaction of knowing they will be taxed up the rear. Anything under $1200 is unworthy of anyone's attention.

Seems like they do it when someone hits the top jackpot on a machine no matter what the denomination. I heard it recently when the player next to me on a 2 cent machine caught a Royal for just a couple of hundred bucks. I really wish they would stop it already. I may consider emailing them about it, but don't want to draw anymore attention than I have already. If they read this site, they are probably po'd already at some of the things I post, but at least I give them a little plug in giving them free advertising as to 99% quarter games.

We have a total of 13 casinos in this area and only 1 announces jackpot winners. In my opinion the casino that does announce winners is the best place to play by far, many others must agree because the place stays packed. When Harrahs was still open every time someone would hit a jackpot anywhere in the casino loud music would play and blue lights would flash everywhere, now that was annoying.

When they announce this, does the person have to buy a round of drinks?

At least the players know someone is winning. Did anyone hear Bob Dancer's name announced? (Take it easy, it's just a joke and I couldn't resist...)

This stuff is hysterical. Two to six hundred bucks and they put on a dog and pony show? PT Barnum would be proud. Just my two cents. Wait, that can trigger a jackpot announcement.

I've been in a few Harrah's casinos that play some canned music that ends with people yelling "Jackpot!" when someone gets a W2-G. I believe Joliet is one of them, so Ted knows what I'm talking about. So up on a Saturday night, you hear it a decent amount. Tuesday afternoon, not so much.
