Who out there honestly knows of someone who wins far more than they lose, year after year?

Details please, and I will not critique or respond to posts unless asked to.

DaBurglar, glad you are back.  I was worried we had lost you.  If you are talking strictly about cash in vs. white ticket wins, my answer is "no one that I know of".   Sure some players have positive years, even a few in a row.  I've done that a few times myself.  If you include comps plus other video poker related gambling profits in your total, I'm sure the list would include some names.  It all depends upon how someone arranges their figures.  What proof do we have that this is possible?   Would someone publish 20 years worth of personal tax returns?  No way.    Would someone cherry pick their casino printouts?  Maybe.   As things are, you must make up your own mind about these claims.  The dream that this is possible is what drives the gaming industry.  My question is "If you didn't think long term winning was possible, would you continue to play video poker anyway?"  I think most of us would.

I've finished ahead for a single year before but that was long ago. If you play a lot of vp like me I do not think there's a chance of even finishing ahead for a single year. I've only had years that weren't as bad as some. In 2016 I could have finished ahead for the year if I would have quit playing because I was ahead at one time. I had way too much free time on my hands and I couldn't work or play golf so I kept playing vp. I ended up losing pretty much the usual amount I do for the year. I really wished I could bring myself to quit playing but I guess I have some type of defect. I started playing .25 denomination and when I hit a royal I remember thinking if I was playing $1 denom it would have been $4k instead of just $1k.

[quote=ko king]I really wished I could bring myself to quit playing but I guess I have some type of defect.[/quote]I don't think you're defective.  Video poker is very addictive. I also have a lot of time on my hands and video poker helps the thinking part of my brain from rusting.   At 70 years old many of my friends sit around watching Fox news and game shows all day.  I like to have a project of some kind and the isolation of being retired can be depressing.  I still do some consulting work, but it's sporadic. Going to the casino once a week gives me something to look forward to.  The trick is to balance your desire to play with the cost.  Forget about winning, just enjoy the experience.

Since 2007 all of my years have ended positive. The originator of this forum post will refute those results but frankly I don't care.

I play by my mood and if I get the urge to quit a session when I'm up a grand or so, that's exactly what I do. My most recent outing turned out to be this very situation; after less than 60 minutes of play I got up a little over $1,400.00. In a matter of minutes the meter dropped to just over 1K positive so I decided to then end the session up the 1K.

Prior to that I stopped at a restaurant to pick up a carry out order and while waiting I decided to put $60.00 into a machine and see what happened. I was playing single line Joker Poker and the max payout was $500.00 for either: a natural royal; a royal with a joker; or, 5 of a kind. Max bet was $2.00. After playing for about 3 minutes, up down, up down, I hit a 5 of a kind for $500.00. I cashed out at $530.00. This was the first and probably last time I will play at a machine in a bar/restaurant in Illinois that offers video gambling.

A recent comment was made about me not posting stories of my play anymore but my outlook on that is quite simple: why should I post stories here about my winning sessions when there are those who will gripe and not believe me? So Ijust don't post them anymore. If someone doubts my play that's their issue and not mine, I post the good outings with the bad.

Other than the people on this forum I don't actually know anyone else who plays video poker as odd as that sounds. I myself have only ended a year ahead 1 time in I believe about 13 years of playing.
