You stated that 8/5 DDB is the most popular game in your area. Is it also the game with the highest theoretical return?
You stated that 8/5 DDB is the most popular game in your area. Is it also the game with the highest theoretical return?
No.  I never play DDB and definitely not 8/5, but it is the most popular quarter VP game by far.   The quarter game with the highest theoretical return in our area is 8/5 Bonus Poker at 99.166% with max coins.  We also drive 4 hours to Hollywood to play so called Airport Deuces at 98.913%.   It is possible to play those games with max coin quarters for less than $5,000 a year.  If you add in comps and free rooms, it comes pretty close to even if you can play anywhere near perfect.  Keep in mind that we play a lot more VP than most recreational players. If you don't take advantage of comps or they have no value to you, single coin quarters would be a way to play a lot of hands cheap but you must be willing to give up the excitement of a max coin royal.  I'm not sure many players would accept this trade off.Back at the Beau Rivage the comps were plentiful but the games were so bad (7/5 Dollar Jacks or Better) there was no way to keep from running through $2,000 on most three day trips.  Switching to single coin quarters saved us a lot of money.  Amazingly enough, they still offer us the same free rooms.  I guess most people succumb to the dollar succubus! It takes discipline to stick with quarter play, no matter how many coins you play.

Interesting how FP encourages others to single coin 8/5 DDB but will not do it himself.

I never encourage anyone to play single coin.   I clearly and honestly laid out the pros and cons of single coin play.  If someone wants to play that way, fine.  If not, OK by me.  No one is harmed if someone plays negative VP for $5 an hour except the casino. The beef I have with most "VP experts" is that they side step this issue completely.  Telling players to never play anything but positive games in today's world ignores 99% of the players, leaving them to figure things out for themselves.   If experts want to help today's VP players they should spend more time talking about average VP games, not some opportunity only a Vegas AP can play.  I think we've pretty such exhausted single coin VP play.  Let's move on.
