How is this for irony

I read "insider" or "inside info" a dozen or so times over the years from DB. That is where the AP makes their money. Not just playing the machine. The video poker machine is the tool used to play the promotions.
The video poker machine is the tool used to play the promotions.
This is understandable.   And without the right promotions what do you have?   This is the challenge the majority of VP players must deal with.  If you only play VP when the combined expected return is positive, you won't play much VP.   In Vegas, a small time player can earn a little cash back, eat a free steak dinner or have their dog groomed with the comps.  APs can wait for a big progressive, play on triple point days or capitalize on an error in their favor.  In the Southeast, nothing can turn the games positive.   Your alternative is to play small and enjoy the game as Recreation. If I play $5 games in Florida, I will be playing with a sizeable house edge.  The casino will welcome me back with open arms.  I will be treated well, given free limo rides to the airport and enough points to eat all the shrimp cocktails I want.  They will also give me free show tickets and enough free drinks to drown a horse.  Fresh flowers will be in my comped suite and my wife can go to the spa until she's bored.   Non of these things will keep me from paying the casino's bills. To some players this is worth the cost.  It's not to me, so I play quarters, get a free standard room without the flowers and eat free in the coffee shop.  At the end of a year, it costs me less to play the same game, everyone is happy and I don't have a bunch of W2Gs on my tax return.  You don't make these decisions based on what an AP does in a book.  You make them based on what's best for you.

It is A tool, not THE tool but otherwise a very good post.

By the way, when people talk about " inside information", this information doesn't come from casino management, or at the very least with their blessings.
A longtime pro has a network of "informants" out looking for valuable plays. Anyone interested can figure out who might make a good spotter.
Most people are either too lazy or just clueless when it comes to finding these plays.
Take Ultimate X, for example. There are people who sit around for hours watching machines waiting to pounce on them, and then there are people like myself who take the time to check these machines as I pass them, but don't depend on finding anything.

When you wake up from the daydream you live in, we'll discuss what exactly can comprise "inside info"...lookouts? Informants? No, that's not what I was talking about and I'm certain that is not what Mr. Dancer was alluding to when he let slip about his use and reliance on it as well as the fact he doesn't share certain things. Stop watching George Clooney casino flicks
