The practical answer is: only bring what you are willing to lose, and when you run out... stop. Don't visit the ATM. As long as you stick to that, you can play however you want without worry and enjoy yourself.

Play for free on your computer.FloridaPhil wrote: ↑Tue Aug 21, 2018 10:26 amHere is a riddle for you. Suppose you want to play VP all day on a budget and all you have available is 96% games? This is the goal of many retirees in our area. What would you do? The only choices I see are to play as slow as possible or as small as possible. Are there any others I missed?
If it was really just about enjoying the game that's what these folks would do. But it's not.

Basically every thread in here can be summarized into some version of:
FP: There are no AP opportunities near me.
Everyone: Yes there are, if you look hard enough.
FP: Well I don't want to go to the trouble of doing that. I just want to play VP, but the tables around me are so bad!
Everyone: Ok, so then don't play.
FP: I can't just not play. I'm a degenerate, I have to play.
Everyone: Ok, so then play for free at videopoker.com
FP: That's no fun. I don't feel alive unless I'm losing money.
Everyone: Ok, then go lose money then.
FP: I WISH DANCER AND EVERYONE WOULDN'T IGNORE ALL OF US WHO HAVE TO LIVE WITH BAD VP TABLES!!

That is not at all true and it shows you don't understand these players. Retirees go the the casino for social interaction and entertainment. Most are smart enough to know they are not going to beat those games. The ones who think they can are the ones that get into financial trouble. It is entirely possible to enjoy VP on a budget. All you have to do is realize you are not ever going to beat the casino and play accordingly.Gronbog wrote: ↑Tue Aug 21, 2018 11:10 amPlay for free on your computer. I don't expect many members of this forum will understand a retiree who plays single coin quarters. At the Coconut Creek Casino in North Ft. Lauderdale the nickel VP machines are so full you can't get a seat. The odds on those machines are waaaay worse than the single coin quarter odds. Am I going to get on the PA system and tell them they are wasting money and should go home and play online? Hell no. They are having a good time despite the fact that they don't have positive games to play.
This forum is a waste of time to those folks for a dozen reasons. Until we make room for them, it's not going to help anyone but a few wantabee APs.

You're the only one who sees this forum as AP land. Most of us are not professional AP's and there is plenty of room for people to share their own experiences whatever they are.

As a 99.5% access player who only wants to play 1.5-2 hours, I should have it made. Even when I don't gat a quad, if the upside exists, I close shop.

I disagree. Most long time forum members know I can play VP at any denomination I wish. I choose to play VP like the retirees who play around me. They aren't consumed with odds, simulations, ER or drawings in the middle of the night. They are only concerned with the cost of entertainment and they calculate that cost on a daily basis. We know we may not live long enough to see "long term", so those words have no meaning to us. Whenever I post something relative to them, I am told I don't know what I am talking about. I know what I am talking about when it comes to the games we play. The experts on this forum know nothing about us or why we play the games we do. They refuse to discuss playing negative games at all.
I suspect some would like me to go away permanently. How would that help other players like me? Telling them to play only positive games is worthless as there aren't any they can afford to play within 2,200 miles of our local casino. I want forum members to be able to discuss playing VP any way that brings them enjoyment. I asked for the Recreational Forum so this might happen. Whenever we start to have a conversation about negative games, someone jumps in with a statement that shows he doesn't know beans about us or those games.
This continuing argument is silly. If you don't want to hear a bunch of "for fun" players talk about VP as entertainment, stay on the Strategy Forum. That's what it's there for. If you play VP for profit, state your case without becoming abusive. Ted is a great example. His questions are thoughtful. He doesn't insult anyone. He states his opinion without being overbearing. Do we always agree? No. When I see one of his questions, I know he doesn't have an agenda. Some of the players on this forum have no other purpose than to confront everything I say without even reading what I post. "Plenty of room?" I don't think so.

I would LOVE to talk about negative games, as long as it's not the same perpetual conversation you keep having over and over.
We get it! You don't play for profit. If you bet less, you will lose less. Why do you feel the need to keep repeating this SO. MANY. TIMES?!?!
This is the internet and your words are recorded. You don't have to keep saying them again.
