Query: Cruise Ship VP?
Mrs. Minn. and I, along with two pairs of my cousins, have booked an Alaska cruise this June on Holland America Lines' MV Vollendam. Has anyone on the Forum played any VP on cruise ships before? I'd be interested to know what kind of games (and pay tables) might be most common. Thanks, all.

Doing some research I've found that last year the state of Alaska began taxing cruise ship casino profits at a 33 percent rate. While I've heard some lines have loosened up pay tables somewhat, that can't be good news for VP players headed for Alaska.

Ive only cruised the carib and Mexico-they have gamekings on norwegian but the pay tables have gotten worse and worse every year. They change them for the different denominations-$ 8/5 50cent 7/5 quarter-im getting nauseous now-6/5!

Boops, what horrible paytables! Do California Indians run these cruise lines?

LOL Ed! They used to have the same paytables for all denominations-8/5-still not great but at least you didnt feel mugged playing quarters!

Boops, I might sit down at an 8/5 but would only look at a 6/5. there are several other options available but 6/5? ? ? Might as well dress well and carry a big wad of cash in North LV

We ended up playing dollars which is really too high for us cause we couldnt bear to play the other paytables. Had a few hits but really didnt have the right bankroll. They did have quarter triple play that I seem to remember wasnt as bad as the single line-we did play some of that too.

I've never been on a cruise... all I ever hear about cruises is that you get food poisoning.
It's nice to hear that there are fun things to do too.

Eduardo, theres plenty to see and do. The casinos onboard are practically rigged because the house advantage is something like 5 plus. Thats like playing roulette exclusively!

Eduardo: "I've never been on a cruise... " Everyone should try a cruise because they are so much fun! They offer so many interesting activities, you cannot begin to participate in everything. Do NOT go on a cruise planning to win big at VP in their casino. There are actually better choices for that. My husband chose a 10 day trip to the Panama Canal for our first cruise. It was fantastic! However, he wondered if it would ever end after a few days at sea. We had withdrawal from no cell phone, cable and computer. Definitely start with a much shorter cruise as a four day cruise to learn if it's right for you.
