Beach Bummer

Post by FAA »

I recently had a bracing 7 AM swim on the north end. It took almost a half hour just to get comfortable with the water temperature. Three towel routine. One on the sand, two inside a large shopping bag. Shoes and shirt alongside it. I kept an eye on them from afar. Oddly, the bag was tilted at one point. As I swam closer, I saw the starving seagulls tearing away at it. Basically a poor man’s vulture. I ran into shore to shoo them away, knowing that the damage was done. Back into the water. Next time the towels will just be stacked atop the base towel, bag folded beneath. I won’t be so gullible. No matter what, AC will tear me a new one.

The seagulls got payback for you stealing their half-eaten sandwich last year off the boardwalk....

Heeeee. GULLible. In the old days fishing from shore in Ct, I would throw the Cunners ( trash fish ) I caught way up in the air. They would usually catch it. They would only be 8 or 10 inches long. Now they dine on hot dog rolls, leftover chips, and whatever else humans leave behind. Bad! Around here they still take an oyster, clam, or big snail shell up a hundred feet or so and drop it on the pavement so they can devour their dinner with less work. The only thing they have to watch out for are moochers.

The city trucks were out and rolling on the beach at that hour. What little existed was quickly cleaned up. Come back in the afternoon, gulls. I can’t even beat the birds, much less the house.
