High roller was solo today, but I still was uncomfortable playing the adjacent $5 machine. I walked behind him out of curiosity. He plays single coin JOB. Apparently he’s grinding away at their 9/6 denomination.

"High roller " and "single coin" don't really go together, even if at 800-1. But then again, a lot of people with large bankrolls behave in eccentric ways. For sure high roller and grinding away don't mix. I suspect he was in capital preservation mode or playing scared. Are you sure he wasn't employing some type of graduating bet system?
