This is Taste of Atlantic City month. It features $20 lunch and $35-$60 dinner deals. Deal me in. I went to the renowned bakery in town for a club roll to make a sandwich, then strolled to Tony’s Baltimore Grill in Tropicana’s shadow. First course is a soup or salad. Informed of a pasta fazool soup, I accepted. It was fantastic. Just what I wanted on an inclement day. I also got a bread basket with butter and saltine crackers. Second course had many options. I chose Chicken Parmesan with spaghetti, liberally applying the cheese shaker. After enjoying the edges of the CP, I tucked the bird in the scooped roll. Crispy edges, nice touch of cut basil. Not healthy, but it’s a cheat meal. The only dessert is NY Cheesecake. It was the fluffy kind, not the dense brick I prefer. But sufficiently good nonetheless. It was all plenty for twenty. Functional jukeboxes on most tables. Music on sound system: King of Pain, Edge of Seventeen, Crocodile Rock, Should I Stay or Should I Go (Gambler’s Dilemma). All oldies, all the time. 99 years in business.

Tony’s ambiance. You could say it’s a homey, lived in establishment. Their charming bar is next door.

Lunch looks very good. The only thing I have a thing about is……I always have to have Angel hair and I can’t always get it when pasta comes with a meal.

Angel hair pasta is so insubstantial. I grudgingly accept it, but it would be low or last on my pasta list. It’s so much fun to pick any random place and get a great $20 lunch this month. This is cool marketing.

My plan was to dine at Breadsticks in Resorts. But I saw a line of eight outside and figured it could not be worth waiting for. I walked over to Tennessee Avenue Beer Hall, a short walk from the library. Waitress was pushing the St. Patrick’s Day specials. She was totally unaware of the Taste of AC promotion until I specified it. She asked around and came back with that menu on her phone. $20 tomato soup and crabmeat flatbread. I only saved $5, but did get two SPD necklaces with attached shot glasses at the bar. They brought both out simultaneously, nullifying a tip. Music only came on after I was there for twenty minutes. First song was a clever choice, U2’s 1987 mega hit I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For. RF is easier to find than on point service.

Lunch looks just ok. Last weeks much better. I noticed the surcharge to for using a cc. Enjoyed the pic of Bride of Frankenstein on the wall. Bit of trivia. The movie came out 4/19/1935. Premier was in San Fran. The film was a huge success. I first saw it about 1955 when I was 7.

Yeah. I vastly preferred the Tony’s lunch. But I wanted to spread my wings and try new spots for the $20 deal. The place was evidently part of a St. Patrick’s Day pub crawl. I loved the decor. You may have missed another picture up there. The staff was just clueless, apologetic left and right to patrons. When they bring out courses simultaneously, I check out of tipping. It was the last straw. I may return to good old 1927 Tony’s again. The Bride is playing at nearby Tropicana IMAX. Its lead will win an Oscar tomorrow night.

I will definitely hit ( no pun intended ) Tony’s if I ever get down that way. Speaking of “ Hit “ if you have never seen the entire Boardwalk Empire series, it is great. Of course I loved the history and the cars etc. while we are on the general subject, a few Halloweens ago, I donned a straight face, and while giving out treats to the kiddies, had a little fun. The Mrs wore a much more mild and cute Witch outfit. At the time we had 5 police officers living on the street. They even arranged a fake takeaway of me in cuffs. Created lots of gossip with the neighbors who didn’t know me. 😂
