Re: Vegas in Sept.
Steve, Sams town has a shuttle service running to a few properties on Fremont st. and the GVR has a shuttle to Mandalay Bay travel center. Or do as Lizzy suggested and hop on the Cat bus for two bucks. In all my years of visits to LV, I can say I've never visited the Palms. It sounds like the place to go judging by their VPfree inventory and proximity to the strip. GVR is a very nice casino experience. Downtown is closer to Red Rock, why not try there or Rampart?

I've only heard of Red Rocks and Rampart because of this site. It is certainly something to consider. Thanks for the tip. I'll do some further checking. Because of travel time required to GVR, I'm now leaning towards choosing the Palms if only because I can incorporate that into our strip trip with minimal extra travel time. I've done downtown plenty and always try to see at least one other casino on each trip. There's still 2 or 3 casinos downtown whose doors I've not darkened yet. El Cortez, Las Vegas Club {maybe closed temporarily} and the one where Mike A. says they sell deep fried Twinkies? or pickles or something.

Steve, absolutely try to get to Palms. Don't expect a big, or spacious casino, but you can expect friendly VP at most denominations. The best of luck to you and your Mother. Win big and come back and tell us all about it.

Don't waste your time at "Mermaids" looking for anything except Deep Fried Twinkies I'm not that crazy about the Tez either except for Blackjack. They probably have some PE VP (check vpFree for recent reports). But their BJ is so much better than anywhere else on Fremont that I never play anything but that table game while there.I don't recall the Las Vegas Club (LVC) being closed. You "may" be thinking of Lady Luck which is one block north of Fremont. They closed a couple of years ago "for remodeling". There has been a lot of question as to whether they will open back up with a casino.I didn't go to "Gold Spike" the last time I was out there. There was quite a bit of excitement though about them remodeling and adding table games again. It's one of those places where in the past, you wanted steel toed shoes to avoid unintentional doses of very used heroin if you know what I mean. They had a warning sign in the window "No Headbands Allowed, No Exceptions". I presume there was some Gang Turf War involving the Spike but never did find out.

Looking forward to a winning trip report Ted! ? ? ? Was it BigSteve or Ted? I wish them both luck for sure but Steve started this thread.(unless he's Ted in the real world)Steve, so many options to line up from Downtown as a starting point. Do your strip thing with a side trip to the Palms this time out. Next time, focus on a couple off strip properties. Do the Decatur detour with Az Charlies and Texas Station and Fiesta, possibly Palace Station. All bunched together. Sams, Az Charlies, Boulder Station, Longhorn and Cannery East(soon) all bunched together also. Too many options buddy! One trip at a time. Been going regularly since the middle 80's and have yet to see all the properties.(some I'd rather not!) Lots of "dive" looking joints but reportedly with positive return games hidden inside them. Thats the underground LV I'd go in search of.

ginxxxx pushed me over the egde. Palms it is this time. Mike A. is correct as usual. It was the Lady Luck I was thinking of and I haven't spent any? time in the Gold Spike yet. Da Cat has the best suggestions for future parlays. My mother considers the intersection of the Nugget, Binion's , 4 Queens and the Fremont as holy ground but she'll tear herself away to see the lights of the strip one evening. We'll just leave a little earlier to fit in the Palms. I'm happy anywhere the coffee is hot and and my Mom is having a blast. Boopsahoy, I'll be delighted to file a trip report. By any other name a bigsteve is still a bigsteve and believe me I've been called a lot worse.

Then so be it! Don't mess around Steve. Land that quarter RF double quick so you can take your mom to see Wayne Newton!
