I've seen the same thing for a friend at Ceasars on New Years Eve, they even fly him out there.  He plays blackjack and last visit was rated at $1100 a hand for 12 hours a day for 4 days.  That's a ton of chips.  Funny thing, when it was all said and done, he came home up $2000 (which includes the $1000 his wife lost on slots).  I'd expect a bigger swing.
They really want to fill rooms between NYE and the CES which starts Jan 8th in 2009.   LOL - if I was out there for the CES - being a gadget freak, I'd probably not gamble too much

well, although $3,000 does seem like a good offer, if you are going to lose thousands of dollars on the trip to get the offer, it doesn't seem that good.

wow, $1,100 a hand! i always wonder where these people get this money.  it's hard for me to bet anything more than $150 a hand and even that kind of bet is rare for me. i'm more comfortable in the $25-$75 hand range.

when i was in vegas in june, this asian lady (maybe in her 30's) was down probably $10,000 and she just kept taking out a white envelope in her purse with wads of $100 bills. must be nice!

Scorpio,

Diamond is now 11,000 tier credits, used to be 10,000. Seven Stars is 100,000 tier credits. I just broke 70,000 this month. I don't think I'll be able to reach 100,000 for the end of the year unless I get a huge hit like dealt a Royal or Aces with a kicker on 10-play supertimes with a 10x multiplier...on quarters that would be $100k for the Royal, $50k for the quad Aces w/kicker and at least $20k for getting dealt quad Aces w/out kicker. If I had a hit like these I could move up to dollars and the credits would accumulate fast.
I've got dealt quad Aces once w/out kicker with a 2x multiplier, 4 of them hit the kickers. Unfortunately, I was playing dimes at the time and hit for 25,600 credits for $2,560. Prior to that the biggest hit was dealt a pair of Aces with a 10x multiplier and picked up 1 with the kicker for 20,000 credits, again unfortunately dimes for $2000. So big hits like these do happen, but hopefully you're playing the right denomination when they do.

By the way, called my host at Paris/Bally's this morning...the $3,000 cash offer was booked in less than 12 hours on Wednesday. Guess I should've called immediately when I received the offer Wednseday rather than thinking about it for a day. Next time I will, I could always cancel. He said there was absolutely nothing he could do on this one and that every Harrah's host in Vegas has been getting 40-50 calls a day trying to get them in on this offer. I couldn't get a rock solid number from him on how many offers went out and how many slots they filled, but I got the impression that they may have sent out 100 times more offers than they had slots to fill. Maybe next time they should send out fewer offers at first to the best players and see how quickly they fill up; and if they don't, send out another batch to the next tier of players. I'm kind of disappointed, but then again maybe the machines will not be hitting that weekend and they saved me a few thousand.

wow,i'm just trying to figure out how to get a diamond card. Log on to  "Harrah's total rewards diamond players club card" and plow through the fine print and links to find out what you wish to know.  On one of those pages is worded "Not all casinos have players clubs, click here for a list of the casinos that do." Yes, one needs 11,000 points per calendar year to attain or maintain DIAMOND status. (Some outdated info still lists the obsolete 10,000 points requirement.) In my case, I need 812 more points this year. They will easily be added on our Nov trip to Vegas or when we attend comped Blue Man Group and The Spirit of Christmas extravaganza at Caesar Windsor's new 5000 seat arena in Nov and Dec. We have really enjoyed the advantage of a Diamond card this year including meals at Diamond Lounge, free flights to Tunica and AC, special rates to Reno, and more extras. Seven Stars is never going to happen for this frugal, part time gambler. I can log on my Harrah's player card number and password to check on my diamond points.

FYI Spirit airlines sends fantastic LIMITED TIME offers to our email. We book on line ASAP. Otherwise, the rates may increase or sell out before we get our request completed! A quick glance at our calendar for dates and we are booking our flight! Our next flight to Vegas is $242. total, round trip for two including taxes, fees AND $30 for being able to sit together on aisle and center seat. Spirit is now charging extra on line for seat reservations/requests. Perhaps the present economy crisis played a role in these seemingly record low fares. Carry ons will work for us to avoid $10 per checked luggage fee, waiting for luggage twice and avoid LOST LUGGAGE. On one flight to AC from Orlando, our checked bag showed up three days later at the airport. We did not know where our luggage was but had more pressing things to be concerned about in AC. Like whether the Jitney would make it to our destination and where to play and eat next! We picked up our large checked suitcase at the AC airport on our way to VA! Fortunately, we had everything we needed for AC in carry ons. Consistently, flights to Vegas from Detroit Metro have been booked to capacity EXCEPT the red eye returning and this has worked for us. We will catch a flight at 10:50 PM and arrive at Metro at 5:35 AM. (Three hour time difference between Vegas and Detroit) This gives us another day to play in Vegas. There have always been empty seats on the red eye and we can be more comfortable sleeping on the return flight. Once we book our flight, I read through our Vegas file for best hotel offers and make reservations for a room near the elevator. There are many hotels to choose from and they usually have rooms available. We usually stay at two or more hotels during one trip for variety and easy access to other casinos.
