As always it's RR and GVR...the "M" is not as good as it was when it opened which is too bad as the food and rooms are tops...No FP machines and not much selection period...Next trip in Jan. and it's two nights at RR and two at GVR....Both fun places.  Oh, on the last trip a few weels ago, I won $1000 at GVR in one of their promotions.  The top prize was $5000 then two $2500 and 4 $1000 winners.  Lots of lower money winners.  My Player card no. was drawn and I was a happy camper...Watched a woman play $1. 5play.  Too rich for me but the old gal was dealt four 4's twice within about 10 min....She never even cracked a smile...LOL  I would have been screaming...

I know the feeling. We have a mother daughter team who play multi-hand machines almost daily. Mom usually plays $ 3/5 play Super Aces and DDB mainly. Sat by her playing quarters a couple times. She may play 8-10 hours at a time. On one occasion I watched her go through about $4K during a three hour period. I have also seen her hit 4-5 G statements at a sitting. Last night around midnight she was dealt the AWAK on the bottom hand of 5 play $ DDB. Without hesitation she promptly moved to the next machine while she awaited the attendants.    It was the third G-statement that I saw and not to be outdone her daughter was dealt quad 4's on DDB 3 hand $ while mom is waiting.

On a personal note of envy: Just once I would like to have what she plays in a daily trip to the $VP.

My husband always says, "why don't you play for the big bucks" so on the last trip to Vegas I was up $1900 and that was just quarter play on various machines,  so I thought what the heck I'll play some  $ triple etc...Lost it ALL...I'd rather be able to relax and have fun...and not worry about money.  Playing FOR the money makes me nervous...I'm basically to tight....I figure some of those high stake players loose plenty also...Did you ever go through Biloxi? and if so did you try the Beau R.?  I posted somewhere the only two banks of machines worth playing...I hit it pretty big there at least big for me....Dealt the 4A twice in three hands on TP..got the kicker on one line so a quick $1600....Pay table wasn't great but if you hit the A's it doesn't much matter...Bet they will invite me back...LOL

Before we retired we played some $1 VP. One night we hit two RF on $1 and decided to try move to the other local casino that offered 99% return $VP and try our luck. First machine we hit Deuces for $1K. We talked and decided to try $5VP. We were so nervous. We put $400 into the machine and hit a quad playing DDB and cashed out a $2K G-statement.   We moved to the next machine and repeated our $400. We hit a hot streak and hit another G-statement hit for $1,500. Giddy with adrenaline we moved the third machine and repeated the process. $400 in and quad Aces for $2K. We had a long discussion about the night, our luck, and reluctantly decided to call it a night with 5 G statements. We were so nervous and the adrenaline rush was so big it was hours before we could get to sleep even thought it was after 2 a.m.

The one thing about playing for $VP is that the wins are nice but the losses can be astronomical if you allow them. We sat next to a man last spring in the $VP area of Lauberge du Lac in Lake Charles. We played $VP-$5/hand by pooling our money. This guy is playing Spin Poker at $90/hand. He hits a statement hit for $1500. I congratulate him. He moves to the next SP machine and promptly hits a RF for $8K. I congratulate him again and he states he was down $11K for the session before the RF. But he states he was dealt Quad Kings w/A the night before for a cool $72K. As he hits a second RF for $8K we hit a quad for $400. We have to just get up and leave.

We've been to Biloxi and played BR but prefer Imperial and others that have better pay tables.

If you ever get to Lake Charles try the Isle of Capri for 25¢/ 5¢ multi-play (99%) with high returns and Lauberge du Lac for 99% $VP.

during my recent trip to las vegas 12/23-27 while i was comped 4 nites at rio i only played 8 hands 25c 8/5 job broke even on those i am giving up my diamond card as all harrahs properties have poor paytables i did most of my play at palms fpdw and i saw redrock which has many fpdw games. i liked the layout pf red rock except it was away from the heart of las vegas. i will be back there and stay there. as far of the rest vp is being downgraded even negitive games from 9/6 job to 8/5 and nsud becoming to 98.91 deuces. which tells the stupid mindset of casino executives in places like boyd gaming as they are so desperate for cash to keep the doors open. this additude is driving many players away from las vegas that will never come back. the casino execs shoud suck it up and ride out the storm and go back to what made las vegas sucessful ( like giving deals on rooms food shows and stop trying to make it all a profit center so the tourists can feel they got something for their money

We too traveled to Vegas in December and found the Red Rock to be the best casino for video poker.  Unlike the strip, we were able to play for a long time on our money and even had some wins.  We don't expect to always win when we gamble, but certainly expect to be able to play for a while.   We are planning to stay at Red Rock next visit.

frogface,
Glad you enjoyed RR. Make sure you make a trip during the warmer months so you can enjoy the pool area. Not only is the VP the best around the pool(s) and the pool environment is awesome.

Royal Flush,
We feel the same way. We are considering giving up our Harrah's card for the same reason. The pay tables have gotten so bad since the take over by the private equity that we rarely play a Harrah's property anymore. When in Vegas we play the Palms and try to stay at Red Rock unless there is a special need to be on the strip. The casinos are so worried about short term profit that they are killing the game and the strip area especially. LIke much of US business - short term gain and customer loyalty no longer matter.

Happy New Year Everyone!
