Would you rather be right or lucky? Lucky is good in the short term but right often wins out. I do not think in math terms so I tell myself that holdingA-10 is way too rrestrictive. It's like trying for the utimate inside inside inside straight.

Farc, I agree with you 100%. I'd never play that hand the way he did. Apparently his overly aggressive playing strategy is coming home to roost -- he's on a bad losing streak ever since

Tomcat,
Maybe your friend had one of those "gut" feelings. I try to play the best EV on every hand on the games I play. But this past weekend I consciously broke up a pair of Jacks on 6 hands of STP - JOB to hold the A, J, and 10. This is a move I would almost never consciously make - I was incredibly rewarded with a RF.   Over the next 1,000 hands it will probably only be the paying pair.

Larry, No, unfortunately he always holds the A-10 suited. He also rarely holds four cards to a straight or flush, and will often throw away JOB to go for a 3-card royal. I keep telling him not to do these things (especially the latter), but he insists

Sounds like one our family members who only believes in always going for the RF. His mantra is, 'Hey, I'm a gambler!"   In other areas he is a Dave Ramsey believer.
