Re: Single Game vs. Multi Game
I don't care what anyone else says, multi line games absolutely do NOT play like single line games. From my own experience and from watching others, multi line games deal CRAP hands on a far far greater frequency and proportion than do typical single line game versions of the same game. And it is not hard to understand why.....the casinos, who HATE VIDEO POKER TO BEGIN WITH, are not going to risk the exposure of frequent large payouts or even large "hit and run" payouts from players who sit down and play a few hands and hit a good payout and up and leave.....
I recently played at the TAj mahal, and played both the multi line dream card and the QUICK QUADs multi line game......I played a lot and lost a lot, the machines simply do not deal SQUAT!!! Now I compared that to the SINGLE LINE versions of both those games available at Caesars, and the single line games, while not making me rich, DID pay out a decent amount of the time, the results seemed far more "legit".
Put it this way.....I have "DREAMCARDED" 5 Royal flushes ON THE DEAL in the last 9 months on the single line version game and caught one or two more Royals drawing after the initial deal, but having played actually MORE hands on the multi line version of dream card, I have NEVER EVER been "dreamcarded" a royal nor have i gotten one on a draw on ANY of the lines! And the reason is obvious.....the multi line machines would be shelling out 5 or 10 grand MINIMUM per dream card dealt royal, so the casinos calibrate the setup menus accordingly to "WEIGHT" the results generated by the RNG .... Both Quick Quads and dream card, the multi line versions, with their extra coin requirements, are tributes to GREED by both the casinos and the idiot players (me included) who play them......they are gimmicks, nothing more. The single line versions of Quick Quads and Dream Card are "fun" enough to justify the extra money and they don't quite have the impetus to cause the casinos to rig the machines.
Burglar, I do not have access to the 'guts' of the machines, so I do not know if you are right. I hope, though, that you are wrong. I would like to think that the randomness of the first five cards would not depend on how many lines you were playing.
As was mentioned, I have been fortunate to have been dealt RFs on premium games, such as Double Pay. Just last week @ Bellagio, I was playing 3-way DreamCard, and was dealt TTF/kckr playing TDB. So from my perspective, I would wonder why the casino would allow that to happen at all if they wanted to minimize their exposure.
I find myself, sometimes, sensing that I am not getting good starting hands on multi-line games versus single line games. I think, in part, this is a perception due to the fact that you just deal hands more often playing single line versus a multi-line game. Also, the poor hands hurt less in single line versus multi-line.
I used to 'curse' Multi Strike when I would get that premium hand on the 1X line, not the 8X line. Then I thought for a while (and it hurt, too ), and realized that I was playing the 1X line on every game, but only playing the other lines when I was able to move up.
Now, on games where there is some kind of a 'bonus' opportunity, like STP or Dream Card, I have begun to question the frequency that the bonus appears. It 'feels' to me as though they appear a lot less frequent playing those games now versus when they first arrived. This would definitely be a way for the casinos to limit their exposure.

I agree the "bonus coin" multi-line are about greed for casinos. When the STP occurs on average evert 18 hands and adds around a .25 increase in pay return its hard to come out ahead. Players can but you have to be lucky or have a large enough bankroll to last until the big hit comes.
In our experience (we play 90%+ MH), the 5 credit multi-line play games play like a single line game when it comes to dealt hands. The biggest difference is the reduced risk by playing more hands.

At Mount Airy they disabled the quick quads feature from 100 hand games. If you hit max bet it will only bet 5 per line. Use to be able to play longer @ 6 per line w/quick quads than I can now 5/w/o. Sucks.

I stopped playing multi-line games as the extra hands did nothing for my return on investment. I kind of agree with Daburglar on this one as the extra hands were truly horrible. I haven't played them in years as the experiences were that bad.

I hope I am wrong too Billie joe, but between all that I know from people who do or have worked in the industry, my own playing and analysis and the play and analysis of other players I know and communicate with, I am as certain that many multi line games are set against the players as I am certain about anything else in video poker. And to eduardo and all else who have SEEN "winners" on multi line video poker games, just because someone actually "hits" once in a while still doesnt mean the game isnt rigged against the players, or I should say "rigged" to a degree or percentage greater than we players are aware....in fact it makes sense that some players still win to keep the rest of us off balance, doubting what we see and saying that we are simply "unlucky". Plus, I have had it explained to me by people who should know, IF a casino wants to tilt their video poker games more in the houses favor, they will "only" do it to a certain percentage of machines at any one time, for obvious reasons. So if I see a bank of 5 multiline dreamcard machines, I wouldnt be surprised if one of them actually had a big winner once in a while. And Eduardo, you can indeed change my mind about any topic, if you clearly and logically show me the right way or correct conclusion. I am truly open minded, which is why I can conceive of ways casinos COULD cheat or rig video poker. But as stated before, I still believe majority of video poker is legit, but I am also certain I have seen rigged games.....

Speaking of rigged machines, I never thought I would make a post like this. I finally found a Full Pay Deuces Wild Game with Dream Card (5-Play) and traveled 2 hours to get to the casino. I played it for half a day and lost a small fortune. You're supposed to receive dream cards on 60% of your hands in this game---that seemed about right. Unfortunately, I never got one when I was dealt 3 deuces, which happened four times (I realize that is an absurdly small sample). But, with the aid of a dream card, I must have had 30-40 hands when I started with 3 deuces. Would you believe on a 5-play game that I only got 4 deuces one time!!!! Nor did I ever get four deuces once starting with one or two deuces, which I began (with the aid of dream card) hundreds, if not thousands of times. I've never ever had luck that poor on regular 5-play deuces, which I've played a fair amount of. I'm not sure what the math is, but it's a little hard to believe that it could be that bad. When you're betting double the credits for good hands and only get 4 deuces one time over a five hour span on a 5-play game with dream card, something smells fishy. I'm through with that game!!!

Perhpas I'm naive to believe multi line games are not rigged but I don't. Does anyone have proof the random number generators are different in multi line games? I play DDB triple play often and accept the fact I'll need a bigger bankroll. If you truly believe the multi line game you're playing is rigged then call Nevada Gaming Control and complain...or make your suspicion known to the slot boss...Bottom line...you can loss more on a multi line game because you're playing many more hands and you can win big as I have many times with dealt hands and smart play...

It's always the same. Whenever anyone does poorly the games are rigged, whenever they win it's expected (even on negative return games).
I have experienced many long losing streaks on single line machines. Eventually it turned around. I've has both good success and bad sessions on multi-line. I once had royals 5 minutes apart on 3-play and had 8 royals in 2 weeks playing lots of multi-line games.
The vast majority of people simply do not understand variance.
