Like you I go to visit mine...LOL...maybe I'm playing wrong, but when there's 3-2s I hold them and that's it on a regular DW. I once had 3 2s and 2Js dropped the Js and got the 4th 2...

What is "Regular" Deuces Wild?  In Full-Pay you toss straight flushes and below and just hold the three deuces.  You toss 5OAK and hold the three deuces unless it's in A, K, Q, J, or T.  It's better to hold the 5OAK when there's only 18 cards to combine into a wild royal instead of 20.Sorry, but "once" just doesn't mean anything.  You could just as easily say, "I once discarded three jacks and drew 4 deuces, so now I always discard 3 jacks."

I have a feeling on the Deuces machine luvs plays on, you would want to only hold the 3 2s anyway (unless it's "Colorado Deuces"). Outside of offstrip Vegas, finding Deuces machines where its correct to keep the quints are few and far between (common exception "Colorado Deuces").

There are times I have just held the 3 deuces and prayed to the Gambling Spirits. I won't lie it was tempting....    Since I was playing NSUD and I was really tired, I even checked WinPoker to confirm the hold. I generally play the odds unless I have a strong gut feeling or premonition neither which would have guaranteed a 16:1 return.

Breaking quints is always an exciting moment, I did it at the Fitz (now the D) the only time I played their 101.6% Loose Deuces machine (and quints paid 85...ouch). I didn't get there, obv.
