Re: Casino Free Play/Comp Strategies
[QUOTE=davidearl]
I lost the benefits and free-play for both myself, and my wife, for 30 days. My wife was visiting our daughter and grandkids for a month. I didn't lie, just told him she was worried about losing her gold card, and I was just helping her out. He took both cards. Dave
Here are some actions to take:
1) request to immediately talk to the host supervisor;
2) contact marketing and ask about your annual coin-in/coin-out amount and threaten to quit playing at the casino;
3) let the marketing and general management know you have a choice where to play;
4) let them know you'll be contacting this web site , other forums, friends and hosts at other casinos to know what happened. No one knows how to better bad talk a competitor than other casino hosts. Your story will be repeated over and over again. Bad publicity is a killer for casinos.

Thanks for your reply, Larry. This was a couple years ago, so a little too late to do anything now. Besides, no hosts at this small casino. No hotel, either. One other time, at this same casino, they had a hot seat drawing. My wife and her sister were sitting near the guy that won. He was playing on his wife's card, so they refused to pay him. Then they made an announcement over the loud speaker that you must be playing with your own card to win. Never did announce a winner, so I guess they didn't have one that hour. Dave

I think I originally read this in one of Bob Dancer's books - but not sure. If so - thanks Bob!. One benefit of having 2 accounts for a husband and wife may be if a tier level (like Diamond at Harrahs) is achieved and there is no way of getting to the 7 Star level - then 2 accounts may be better. In our case going from $150K coin in to $1.5M is not possible, even with 2 players on 1 card. We may be able to learn more about the comp system by seeing what the 2 separate accounts generate, play on the 2nd account when we are only there for a short while (not reducing the average play on the other account), extra rooms for family, etc. I'm sure there are other benefits that I am forgetting. If anyone has any thoughts on this please let me know.

DaBurglar, the amazing part of your anecdotes is that you witnessed two VP jackpots at Trump Plaza. Neither I nor anyone I've been with has ever won so much as a nickel in that run down dump of a casino!

Question if you hit a cash pay on your daughter's or granddaughter's card will they pay you?
In AC you will encounter problems in this situation, depending on which casino, how much the payout actually is, and whether YOU personally also have a players account. AC is a disaster as I have stated many times before, they do everything in their power to shoot themselves in the foot with regards player relations and treatment....it borders on the comical and the absurd. If you are playing on a friend or relative's card, and that person is nearby and readily available, then you probably wont have a problem, but the person whose card you are using might have their account penalized or even closed simply because if you read the fine print on most cardholder agreements, it states the card is the property of the casino and they have absolute rights and authority over it.....getting credit on your account for someone else's play is generally a no-no so if a hand pay is hit while playing another person's card in AC, the person whose name on the card may have more problems. Now, suppose you hit a jackpot on someone else's card and that person is no where to be found on the property....now you have a potential problem. I have seen this happen four times in 3 years in AC. The first, someone hit a royal on a 50 cent machine in the Borgata....2000 dollar payout, someone else's card (their friend's it turns out) and the Borgata paid no questions asked once the person satisfactorily pointed out why and how they were using the friend's card (I didnt hear the explanation, but the slot person was satisfied so...?) The second time, someone hit a 5000 dollar slot jackpot on a 25 cent Blazing sevens-variant, in the Tropicana. They were using a sister's card but the slot manager said they would need to contact the sister and verify " a few things" and after a little *****ing, they all retired to some office I assume to call the sister. That's all I ever heard so I assume they got paid eventually (maybe I shouldnt assume???) The third and fourth times both happened in Trump Plaza, both one dollar VP Royals for the usual 4K payout.....one lady claimed she was using her sister's card by mistake, but she was BUSTED when the slot guy examined the account and saw the lady had downloaded some of the sister's slot dollar play during the session in which she hit the Royal. <BUZZER SOUNDS> EHHHHHH! Sorry, no soap lady, how and why do you have your sister's PIN number on the card? Both the sister who lent the card and the lady using it were in trouble on that one....I dont know how it ended because once again they retired somehwere else and that was all I heard or saw. And the last time in The Plaza, some guy who was clearly inebriated could give NO explanation why he had another guy's card, so once again, they didnt handpay him there but instead escorted him somewhere else to investigate further, but the fact it was SECURITY who escorted him away with the slot manager did not bode well. In short, I think it pays to ASK beforehand wherever you play about the "What if" scenarios.....I do know using someone else's card to download benefits like free play or free food is a BIG NO NO in AC. Yes, Trump Plaxa is indeed a veritable graveyard (18th century variety). But my story was from 2010, when things were not quite as dreary as they are now. But today the place is a total disaster, and as of September 5, 2013, they no longer have any Greyhound service either to or from the casino......! Given the fact that it is so centrally located in terms of AC's usual bus business, this is a huge development and not one for the better. I think it sucks since the 9:30 AM bus out of Trump Plaza to NYC everyday was one of my favorite, convenient rides when time to come home!! It is going to be either SOLD at a really low price to someone else to operate, or it will be shut down after the Holidays. No way this property survives the dead-dog days of January thru March in AC in its current state of affairs! Trump Plaza's free fall began, truly, in late August, 2011, when hurricane IRENE (not Sandy) caused AC to shutdown for 2+ days (during one of its precious, end of summer revenue bolstering weekends no less.) For a casino operating on the brink already, thats all it can take, and in this case, Trump Plaza never truly recovered since the following summer (2012) Revel opened up and canabalized AC's already ever-shrinking market, and then Sandy hit and practically killed everything! (well not quite everything, but still......BAD) But get this Topcat1969: Last week (Thursday September 12 2013) I was in Trump Plaza around 9pm. I was putzing around the VP section of the casino, having just eaten dinner next door at Caesars and was walking back down the Boardwal to AC Club when I just decided to duck into the Plaza for a moment to see what was hapening. Nothing was happening so before I left the VP section I went to the bathroom, the ones next to the VP machines in the VP section.....well, right in front of the door to the mens room is a pair of BALLY Triple Trouble machines, the older ones with the *clink clink clink* metallic sound when credits move around. On these menus they also have the infamous GOLD MINE Bonus Poker with the (alleged) 1000 credit bonus for a full house. Anyhooo, as I was exiting the toilet I see this guy playing the Triple Trouble Poker game and he is betting the full 20 credits that the machine allows you to play/bet (25 cents per credit). Just was I wheeled up behind him, he draws four to a Royal.....rubs his hands together.....and hits draw. BOOM!!! he hit the fuggggin Royal for 5 grand!!!! That was actually the first time I had ever seen a Royal on one of those Bally's machines.
