Re: Another successful trip to Vegas
awesome thread.......It is not hard, and no mystery ti figure out what your possible electric bill would be......all you need to do is figure out exactly where you will be living (or would like to live) and then ask the utility company to show you the past usage and bills of previous residents/owners.....they are obliged to tell you this......from there you can figure what you will pay, aside from any future increases which obviously can happen for any reason at any time. Also, remember your electric bill is a VARIABLE (as opposed to FIXED) expense......you can choose to use less or more "juice" as the temp flutuates, or you can just spend more time outside your home.....a lot of friends I have known who ownded their own homes in places like Henderson, and Vegas proper told me that during the really hottttt months (june thru late September) they routinely would not venture home until it was almost bedtime ...... there is a lot you can do to keep it low.Does anyone recall that as recent as the later 1990s, NO one living in the city of Las Vegas paid any electric bill, it was all covered by the casinos?? I wonder exactly when things changed and every individual home owner started having to pay their own bill??Until the middle of the decade in the 2000s, Vegas and surrounding communities were actually among the more affordable places in the country to live......it started creeping up right before the great recession hit, when Vegas population was growing faster than ANYWHERE in the country and finally the state and city had to start taxing and assessing fees for all sorts of things that, up to that time, had been paid by the behemoth casinos! And then when the recession hit that actually drove overall costs HIGHER as the city and state no w had to deal with the fallout of such a calamitous economic event. The last couple years things have leveled off as Vegas has recovered better than most cities, and a few people/companies who were able to capitalize on all those foreclosures now are reaping huge profits as real estate resumes its rise and profitable trends. If someone is thinking of buying and moving to Vegas & surrounding area, do not wait much longer, it is only going to get costlier the longer the recovery lasts.
