A Surprising Hit For Sea Lion

Post by Sea Lion »

For those headbangers in LV, Megadeth and Iron Maiden were both in town last weekend, so we had a friend fly in to stay with us for several days as we had plans to hit both shows. After we pick her up from the airport last Thursday evening, we went over to the Orleans to grab a bite to eat in the Prime Rib Loft, but before that, my wife and her friend needed to use the restroom, so we go to the one over near the Western Union window, and as my wife and her friend do their thing, I went to sit down at a machine right there and decide to stick a 20 in and play 25 cents Ultra Bonus. The machine wouldn't take my 20, so I go to a change machine and get four 5's and go back to that very same machine. The first 12 hands played  returned nothing. Then a few pairs hit, then nothing again. My last play with only 1.25 left, as I hit the deal button, I started to get up and almost pulled my players card out of the machine when two Aces popped up. I figured I'll at least get one more play, but as I hit the draw button, another ace popped up, then the very last card that popped up was..... also an ace! I get up and start doing the "funky monkey dog" (victory dance) as I won $200..... or I thought. The counter kept going, and all of the sudden I remember that I was playing Ultra Bonus, and walked away with $500.  Now only if that could happen every time I stick a 20 in a machine!

Congrats Sea Lion, I'm thinking maybe that you treated to some concert t-shirts for you, your wife, and friend?

Thanks, y'all! Galeygoo - I also have had plenty of dealt fish at the Orleans. It's a good thing! Probably one of the reasons they took out those seven All Star 10 play machines that were in the back.  Also less smokey back there, otherwise I now play over at the non smoking section. They still have 9-7-5 progressive DB on nickels over there.Ted - $40 is where I draw the line for concert t-shirts. $35 was my absolute limit on those. I get that bands no longer make anything on record sales and have had to compensate from touring and merch, but either come down in price with concert tix (Maiden, Rush, etc.. good seats approaching $200 or in some cases have surpassed that), or maybe include a coupon in a store bought CD that gives 50% off concert merch.

first off, nice story sea lion, thanks for sharing....I love Vegas stories with detail like yours, and most of all, I find it IRONIC and serendipitous that you were staying at the FAMOUS   ORLEANS casino!!!!     I recently spent  time in several posts in a different thread singing the praises of that awesome favorite "Locals Casino!"      Back during the time in my life, from 1992 thru 2006, when I lived and worked in California (primarily So cal) and quite often found myself in Las Vegas for both business AND pleasure,  I worked, stayed and played  in and AT the Orleans MANY MANY times.     I have always been a NON-strip person when it comes to Vegas, so regardless of the reasons WHY I found myself in Vegas, I either could be found Downtown Vegas, or at an off strip property like Orleans!      ANd Sea lion, thanks for sharing about the Rock/Metal concert!   You may not think of it, but I once was a IRON MAIDEN fan back when I was young and in my prime    sing it out loud:   ( "RUN TO THE HILLS!!     RUN FOR YOUR LIIIIVES!")

DaBurglar - Once Metal is in your veins, it's there to stay. I'm in my 50's and I can still throw horns with the best!  I've known the peeps in Megadeth (Dave and David) for many years, so it was pretty much obligatory to be there. It was a great show!Maiden didn't disappoint either. Bruce was a bit reserved with his stage persona this time around, but he belted them out like it was yesterday. The Orleans is one of my favorite fishing holes. It is one of the few places I still like to play at since I live about 20 minutes away from there, and they have treated us extremely well, and even more so, since we moved here about a year ago. I probably haven't played on the strip in about 15 years or so, but I still go down there from time to time, especially when we have guests come in from out of town to visit us or other family members we have here. One would have to be extremely desperate to play $10 8/5 DDB (7/5 or 6/5 at lower denoms) on the strip!

Ha!   Throwing horns!     I'm practically deaf and wear hearing aids nowadays, so it has been many many moons (20 years) since I last was at a Loud Rock concert, let alone METAL!    But I like hearing other people's stories, so thanks for that.....If you are interested, the next time I am in Vegas perhaps we could meet at the Orleans.    Either the end of this month (March 28 thru around April 6 or so), or in late June during the World Series of poker (currently I am planning on being there June 26 thru July 2;  in fact the June trip would work well because the WSOP is held at the RIO which is a kidney stone's throw away from the Orleans.....)    Let me know if interested.

Congratulations Sea Lion. Glad you had a great time at the concerts and casino. My SIL and daughter would be right there with you if possible.

Congratulations. Did you get a screen shot? I get photos even w hits a tenth as large. Today I took photos of my quads. All five of them, a personal best. Left town up $10 after trip expense, but really moved the comp needle at least.

Thank ya LL and FAA!  Those need to happen more often. FAA - no camera on me this time. We just dropped in there just to grab a bite to eat on the way home from the airport when something nudged me to burn a 20 in  that particular machine. DB - hit me up in June if ya make it out here.
