Vegas trip went well!
I went to Vegas this week with my mom and gf, and it went about as well as I could have hoped! I'll get to the details:
Sunday:
We got in on Sunday around noon, but nothing much exciting happened. Moving on,
Monday:
At Boulder Station earlier in the day, my mom and I were playing some FPDW and I was down a bunch. But that soon changed when I was dealt 2 deuces and drew 2 more! Then literally less than 10 hands later I was dealt 3 deuces and drew the last one!
Later that night, we were all at the Linq just killing some time before the Mat Franco magic show (which was excellent, btw - highly recommend!) and we were puttering around the casino blowing money on the horrible strip video poker paytables. Well when I say, 'we', I guess I really mean 'I', since my gf doesn't gamble at all and my mom only sparingly plays DW.
Anyway, we came across a deuces wild machine and I said ah hell, I'll play $20. My mom stopped me and gave me a $20 of her own and told me to play it for her instead of playing with my own money, I guess because I was down for the trip and my mom was up. Moms are nice like that!
So I put it in and was just treading water for a while and eventually got back to where I started. There were about 10 minutes left until the theater opened, so I asked her if she just wanted me to cash out, and she said it was up to me - so of course I kept playing. Then a few hands later, the KTQA of hearts showed up on the screen. My mom was watching behind me so I told her to press the draw button, but she told me to do it, and we went back and forth for a minute before I told her she should do it because it's her money and it'd be bad juju if I did it. So she did, and guess what came out?
My mom noticeably jumped, and I stood up out of my chair, and my gf came running over because she said we both had a really strange look on our faces lol. My mom of course was elated, since it was her very first royal (and only my 2nd one live!), and being the mom that she is, she gave me half of it!
Tuesday:
The M buffet has a promotion where if you wager $850 on video poker, you get a comp for a free buffet. So I played some ACE$ bonus poker, and came out $5 ahead at the end of it - Woohoo! My mom did the same but was down $55. What an expensive buffet!
After lunch, it was back to Boulder Station, where we hit up the FPDW machines again. I got down a bunch again, when I threw away a garbage hand and drew 4 deuces! That got me back to about even. Then about 10 minutes after that, this happened:
Holy cow!
Later that night, we were at Sam's Town, and I was down quite a bit again playing FPDW, so I decided to switch things up and play some Loose Deuces. I was down to less than $20 from my $100 buyin, when I was dealt a garbage hand with 1 deuce in it. I held the deuce, and hit the draw button while I was turned talking to my mom, and when I turned back to the screen, I saw this:
wowoowoowowwow! Well, I figured that was as lucky as I was gonna get that trip, so I cashed out soon afterwards, and we all went home Wednesday morning, my mom and I both about $1k richer. Whew!

Nice hits! I'm a bit disappointed that the Linq offered that paytable on a non-bartop though for quarters.

Yea, I usually stay at off-strip properties, so I was used to having decent low-stakes paytables to choose from. I hadn't been to the strip in forever, so this was an eye opener :(

Ah, for some reason that bank of machines never pays for me. The bank of full pay on the other end of the entrance seems to have a lot more luck for me. Plus I like that the machines there are fast - unlike the ones at Sam's Town which I think are set at the slowest possible speed.

Awesome hits!!! Yes, it is well known to play on the strip with caution as the pay tables are tighter than off strip casinos, but the same is said about cruise ships, and my wife and I have had some of our best hits on cruise ships.

Yea! We went there the last time my mom was down - the only reason we haven't gone back is that we usually stay at Sam's Town, and so Boulder Station is right down the street and GVR is kinda out of the way. It's a nice casino though.

Good stuff and what a trip! I only wish Vegas was more kind to me.
