Re: Back to Vegas, baby!
We need to get Eduardo "downtown". If for no other reason than to indulge in a deep-fried Twinky! It's a totally different experience than the Strip Eduardo. I'd call it "Retro" except for Golden Nugget. More like a Mall of casinos than the Strip's massive resorts that are cities within themselves.

How long is a cab ride out to GVR? It would be great to get some play in there if I can.
You can rent a car at the airport cheap. I paid about $120 for the whole week last time I rented there.

Say I rent a car... would it be practical to get around the strip (where a cab seems to be easy) or does it only make sense if going off-strip?

Definitely though, it makes sense to rent a car if you plan off-Strip excursions. A hint though....get on-line and scope out the rates. This upcoming trip had my wife booking a rental a couple of months ago and we got rates comparible to what OEC mentions. But, if we were booking TODAY for the car that we'd pick up on Dec 26, it would cost us almost $250.

You can do it either way (or even the monorail - is that beast still running?). It's a trade-off. With the cabs you get dropped off right at the front door. With a car you can do the same with valet but if you park in the garages you typically have a long walk to the casino. You said you're bringing your family, that might also factor into the decision. How many and what ages?

I usually park once and see 2,3 or 4 casinos then move to another section of the strip, or go elsewhere. get a map and use a paralel road and you can get from one end to the other fast.
Or option #2
You do realize children are not allowed in the casinos?
At least that is what i recall.

I did some minor research for you Eduardo. On Bob Dancer.com there are two articles on tournament play. One on May 9. 2006 and one on Aug. 1st, 2006. The Aug. 1st article also describes how to set up VPFW to simulate what you probably should be holding in tournament play.

It is my understanding that you can call them or when you sign up they will tell you, if you ask. All the ones I have heard of are DDB.

Eduardo,my husband just played in a VP tournament at the Rio, the games were all DDB. They had about fifty machines lined up back to back with another fifty machines. Each group of players had one fifteen minute session for two days. When you sign in you elect the time slot and they assign you a machine number, one for each session. Then it's all up to you. Looks like fun. I haven't been invited to play in a tournament because the casino only knows my husband's name. We concentrate all our play on his player card to "kick up" the comps. BTW. he didn't win, but he had a great time. I honestly believe I would have done better because of the practice time I get on this site.Best of luck to you.ginxxx
