Re: Wild Thing Poker strategy (updated)
Could be lucky, but I've done well yesterday and today playing the strategy. It at least is feeling comfortable to play now knowing those initial hold strategies. The second hold strategy is probably much more complex on paper but it seems fairly easy to guess your chances once you have used the correct first hold.
Eduardo, I totally agree with you (I wish I had your likable way of phrasing things!). The really difficult thing to figure out about the game is what to do on the first hold. As a matter of fact, I don't think you could actually figure out the first hold/fold decision unless you already knew what you were going to do on all the various 5-card hands.
It's possible to figure out the expected value for any individual 5-card hold fairly quickly (in a minute or two if you're handy with combinatorics, but you wouldn't want to have to do that on each hand while you were actually playing the game). What's hard about the 5-card holds is to categorize all 102,359 distinct hands in an easy way as holds/folds without having pieces of gold members' heads and brains getting all over the computer screens after the various blood vessel ruptures.
I'm guessing that the simpler nature of describing the 3-card hands is the reason for Webman giving out 3-card holds/folds first, but I may be wrong.
With the 3-card hands, not only do you have to know all 1176 possible 5-card hands that you could get, but you also have to know what the EVs are for each of the 5-card hands and whether you are going to hold or fold each 5-card hand if you happen to get it.
In any event, it is an interestingly different VP game. I wonder if there are going to be different pay schedules that might actually entice people to play it for real in the casinos. It seems like a lot of the pay schedules on this site are at the top end of the pay schedules offered in casinos, so maybe there aren't any Wild Thing schedules at the 99%+ level.

The strategy has been updated with both 3 card and 5 card holds. If anyone here would like to give it a shot using the strategy, post a note so people can see how you do overall compared to the others who may not have viewed this topic.

I had a hard time deciding where to post this. I was hoping for a dealt Royal in 10 play or something similarily exciting for my 1000th post. I am going to settle for a hand from Wild Thing yesterday. While not the top scores it seems to be very difficult to hit.
Before I do that , let me say that I have enjoyed this site immensly. When I joined last fall, there were approx. 47,000 members. Now over 100,000.( I'm not taking credit for that) With every new member that comes aboard , new ideas are expressed, great stories told, and ongoing strategy conversations are held.
The site itself has , in that time period, I believe reinvented itself. It brings us new games and proper strategy for them, long before most of us see them in a Casino. The moderation of this site is supurb and the forum is set up for easy use. In addtion, I have made a number of new friends which first and foremost make this site great.
Without further adieu is my WT Pic.

Congratulations on the 1,000th post, and also the nice WT hit. It's always a nice part of my day to come here and share with yourself and others.

Congratulations both on the nice hit and reaching rank of VP master. Along with the select few who've earned that ranking, your sharpness is overshadowed by your being a nice guy. Tu Salud Faygo! Stay out of the library books!
