Re: gambling and inflation
i was hoping someone would take my admittedly over simplified analogy and say absolutely! royals should pay more for a max credit bet than they did a quarter of a century ago!

If you increased your bet according to inflation (betting dollars instead of quarters for instance) then your royals would pay out accordingly.
If you are still betting quarters when a quarter isn't worth as much, then you shouldn't expect to get more.

yes that is a reasonable statement eduardo, you seem like a reasonably intelligent person.
of course, there reallu are not too many reasonable people remaining in this world and casinos much like most other industry are unreasonably greedy. i hear the voice of sam ace rothstein in the martini scorcesse movie casino in my head saying "if they weren't so greedy" they'd be invulnerable

I would have to say I have found quite a few very intelligent people on this site. Not that I am in any position to judge. The people from the forum that I have met in person easily fit into that very intelligent category as well. I can’t answer for the rest of the world however. I hope Eduardo is listening.

That 1.25 bet a hand to land a Royal for 1,000 bucks back then actually only costs us about 69 cents today a bet to get your same bang for a buck today when they still pay you 1,000 bucks in 2023.

Yup, one was effectively betting approx $2.25 then in today’s dollars so the relative ROI hasn’t changed on RFs. I now play mostly .50 level, with some dollar sprinkled in, to adjust. The bite though, as we all know, isn’t the RFs, it’s the steady erosion of the pay tables for the other hands. Good luck all,olds442jetaway wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2023 5:31 pmThat 1.25 bet a hand to land a Royal for 1,000 bucks back then actually only costs us about 69 cents today a bet to get your same bang for a buck today when they still pay you 1,000 bucks in 2023.

Golf and fishing are not potentially profitable hobbies. But they don’t have negative potential either.

I guess it depends. From my cartoons thread. When I was about 30, I was fishing just offshore in my little 10 foot aluminum boat for flounder. I hooked into at least a 7 foot Sandbar Shark that almost pulled me into the water as I wasn’t expecting anything like that. I couldn’t get to a knife to cut my line, so in a panic, I loosened the drag on my reel and let him run out all of the line. Just before it hit, I felt a slight bump under my boat. I thought it may have been a stray lobster pot. IT WASN’t !

Fat chance of the Government increasing the amount for a W-2G to account for inflation. They have a built in tax increase every year. Especially with Ct having no Gambling loss write off ability. I could add some 4 letter words, but Web man would not appreciate it.

I wonder if casinos will start dropping lower denoms and slap minimum total bets on all the machines to combat inflation. I noticed that some casinos start at dimes now on carnival machines, and are forcing all the hands on super times pay if you want 5 or 6 coins (which used to be a work around if you wanted to be cheap and highlight one hand on 5 nickels or dimes.)
