There are so many deuces wild games that it really is a good idea to post the paytable when asking questions. A couple of other games Ed did not mention:

16/10 NSUD - always hold the 5oak
15/9 FPDW - hold the deuces if it is below 10, otherwise hold the 5oak.

The last one is a prime example of the effect of penalties. By discarding the 10-Aces you have fewer wild RFs available on the draw. By discarding lower cards there are few SFs available on the draw. Since the WRs pay more it is just enough difference to change to proper play.

I have learned two Dueces Wild paytables. if I can't find them, I don't play DW.  Even BD says no one can learn all the various DW games available.

No one should want to play all the versions. Some are really, really bad.

However, if you start to learn some versions then certain rules can be used when going from game to game. For example, when dealt two pair only hold one pair if 4oak pays more than a FH. Otherwise hold both pairs. Another common rule is based on the flush payback. If the flush pays 2x then hold a pair over 4 flush cards, if the flush pays 3x then hold the flush cards. Once a person learns some of these rules then variations aren't as difficult.
