Re: Meeting Shawdowman and winning
It's a real conflict for the G2E for me. Now that Mandalay Bay is hosting the auto auction(Barett-Jackson) in September...well, two "Fall" trips are a bit much. But it would be a blast to meet the other posters here on the forum!

Being able to meet with Shadow and Webman was a joy and would welcome meeting other forum members. Weather was a bit warm for my taste in Nov. but c'est la vie. Nov. 17-19 are the dates so there shouldn't be any excuses except last minute emergencies. Take a chance and make the trip. The worst that could happen is you might meet some nice people and get an RF on real paytables! I didn't get an RF but did get to stand with the VP.com jiggly girls!

And that made YOU the winner! I've found NOTHING on Fremont this week. Even the Blackjack is pretty poor. It's not so much the table rules as it is that the dealers are forced by casino policy to cut off half the cards on double deck. 50% pen on that game really sucks!
I did find a pretty good table at a "new casino" to us called the Silver Nugget on up north of Jerry's Nugget on Las Vegas Blvd. But I've done my best on the tables at El Cortez. That's no surprise to me though. It's always been that way.
I think we are heading south tomorrow to Eastside Cannery and probably South Point and then maybe a jaunt out to Primm to see what it has to offer.

When I left las vegas a few weeks ago on a weekday, i stopped at primm for a few last minutes in a casino before heading back to CA. the casino hardly had any tables open at Primm. the was one single deck table (6/5) and one spanish 21 table. bought in for about $90 and cashed out with over $300 in about 20 minutes. It's pretty fun but no 10s!
I wouldn't waste your time going there. There is not much to do there except a outlet center and 3 boring casinos (avoid whiskey petes...very sketchy!)

I prolly won't play but I'll at least add a couple of new chips to my collection.

Depending on traffic flow and your lead foot(), stateline is about 30 mins south of SouthPoint. I've had decent luck at Buffalo Bills but the paytables are slightly better than the strip. If you do go, stop in to the Gold Strike on the way in Jean. It looks like old LV. I hit a couple of slot jackpots there totalling almost 1K but thats slots and not VP. I wasn't quite into the VP thingy back then.

Mike...
Have you ever gone over to Lake Las Vegas to visit? I haven't and always plan to and never make it. Like you, I try to find new things to do when I go. For example, I go to the tribal smoke shop to buy my smokes (tax free and very cheap) so that is always interesting. And have you ever been to the Peppermill for brunch? It's great and they have an enclosed lounge with a fire pit so that is cool to check out for maybe an evening cocktail. It's right across from where the Stardust used to be.
Ed...
Have you driven by recently? If I recall correctly (since it was dark when we drove by last month), I believe they have completely torn down the Nevada Station (on prior visits, it was just closed).
Went into the Gold Strike one time years back. It's somewhat charming in a trashy way. Great people watching 4 sure!

Vido, I passed by there on my to the G2E last year and all that was left was the marquee for the Nevada Landing, once an old riverboat shaped casino. They had cheap smokes and the Evel Kneivel buses liked to stop there. Gold Strike, as mentioned is like the LV of old, smoky, drabby almost run down looking but I liked it because it kept out the new regime. Let them go to the strip casinos. Pahrump casinos are like that also.

I don't know.... there is something charming about those old smoky places. I was looking at online pictures of the new M casino scheduled to open this year on st. rose parkway and it's WAAAY too modern for my taste.
Speaking of modernizing casinos, I used to love to go to Pechanga when it used to be in those tents. Now, I can't stand going there.

Pechanga? For me, I don't care for it because it's too close to the 15. SOOOOO many people go there but I remember someone mentioning they had NSUD's at the quarter denom which is a rarity for the injun casinos here in So Cal. Morongo and San Manuel can get crowded too!
