Re: Royal Frequency?
The crazy thing was when I hit the Royal last week in Windsor, the lady sitting across from me got one at almost the same time. She was a Black Jack player that was playing VP just to try it. She asked me if that happens all the time and I just smiled. I have only had on delt Royal so far. It was about 6 months ago at the Hard Rock in Tampa.

I wish I had kept a better total of how many hands I have played, since my royal frequeny is still zero.
Next trip is the one though. Right?

FloridaPhil,
From another post: RF for Denominations of 25¢ and higher.
While I don't keep our # hands/RF I do track each one by date and number of sessions for 25¢ and higher denominations. The streaks are often killers. In 2008 our RF by quarter were:
First Quarter = 5
Second Quarter = 10
Third Quarter = 4
Fourth Quarter = 9
We even played more over some of the colder streaks than the hotter ones.
2009 - Play has been fairly consistent in # trips and hands but the streaks are still there.
First Quarter = 2 Killer time!!!!
Second Quarter = 2 By now we were crying and dying!!!
Third Quarter = 6 including 2 days with 2 RF
Hey, I hit quad Aces on Royal Aces Monday playing 5 hands and then 8-10 hands later hit Quad Aces on two hands out of 10. Later I was dealt three 2's on DW and hit 4 hands of Quad Deuces out of 10 hands. When they're hot they're hot!
Long live the new hot streak!
On the other hand I also play lots of multi-hand 5¢: last month I had 1500 hands of 4 to RF on multi-play nickels and couldn't buy a RF. I hit one holding a K-10; and another with a Jack. My wife who hates 5¢ play gets bored and hits six RF over less than a hundred hands 4 to RF while sitting by me in an hour. The "LUCKY ONE" is not ME!

i have been playing vp since the early 80s when the game was in its infancy ... i have hit dozens of royals, but never had one dealt ... nor have ever had one on a redraw ... my wife has had dealt royals twice on multi-line machines ... we had one trip to tahoe few years back and we had 13 royals in that week ... went home with so many hundreds that i couldn't fit them in my pockets ... what a shame

True newby here, what do you mean by redraw?
As for my royals, I've hit 3 in about ten years. Though most of the time (untill recently) I haven't been a VP player. One of mine was on triple play (only one coin per line though). The others were on spin poker and ten play - max coins. I'm yet to hit one on the good old Game King though.

The term "redraw" is used to represent the situation where you throw away all 5 cards and get a new set of 5 cards. Since all 5 cards are not thrown away that often, getting a royal is quite unique.

Im not glad that RF's are that elusive to others as well, but after reading these posts I feel a little better. I have yet to hit one period. I do play strictly DB. Im thinking of switching to JOB. The only reason that I went DB was that .63% thing. I understand how more likely the RF is on JOB. I now think that it is even more lopsided then I originally thought.

I guess the question is would you rather retain .63% more money or hit 20% more royals.
One of the things I recommend for people is to play around with the 100 play games (available here). With these games you will see RFs much more often and you can play pretty quickly in turbo mode. You will soon notice that RFs have very little to do with how well you are doing. I guess it should be obvious since they provide around 2% or less of the total payback, but it really drives home the point.
Naturally, you need to hit all pay-lines to achieve decent results over time, but getting dealt a few FHs or FLs in 100 play returns just as many or more credits.
I would always opt for the extra .63% myself.
