Tanqueray says, "she doesn't want to get too picky" but while she was eating her breakfast and reading two chapters of a book while waiting for the contest to load, she noticed this at the top of the Contest Screen.  " You are in currently in CONTEST MODE".

The night has a thousand eyes.    And Kathy Young added a thousand stars to go with it.

Thanks for the replies to my griping.

The preferred term here is "whining".

My main whine is the time it takes the game to load on my dial-up connection.  When the contest started I dug out my copy of "War and Peace" from my college days to read between sessions, and I'm about halfway through.

Perhaps it's time for an upgrade to high-speed internet!

I agree about the tightness -- and the good hands are very rare.  Last night, for the first time, a 5X coincided with a good hand.  4 Aces plus kicker, for 10,000.   I STILL didn't make the leader board!!

It is fun tho to monitor the chat of the Gold Members, who think that non Gold Members shouldn't be included in the contests, since as of last night only about 3 of them were on the leader board.

I like this game too - better than the Sept contest.   Just wish it would loosen up a bit.

Emmy, I would love to hear more thoughts on this. It is not an uncommon feeling. With thousands of people playing, and many millions of hands (more than 62 million in the last contest), there are going to be some amazing hits. And getting on the leader board is a very challenging thing, indeed. Making even the top 100 is something to be proud of.

Your win of over 10,000 points was fantastic. But should 4 aces with a kicker for 10,000 get a player on the board, when the current 10th place player had a hand worth 20,000 points? Probably not.

People have a tendency to see those leader scores and expect to come close, but the truth is, those are simply amazing scores that only a select few will be lucky enough to hit. But there are indeed a lot of other great scores out there, which is why we post the top 100 at the end of a contest, even though there are no prizes for that level.

If there is some way that we could improve the contests to make your own great scores more rewarding while you shoot for the top, we would love to hear them. We have continually adapted things here based on customer comments and this is a common sentiment that we have so far not been able to resolve.

Thanks for your response.   I'm not sure if you can control the 'looseness' of a game, but for me, the fun is in the playing and getting good hits.
The leaderboard is a goal, but secondary to me.   I would enjoy playing more if I got more amazing hands.   I wouldn't care if I missed the leaderboard by even one point, but it would be more challenging if there seemed to be a chance to get there.

I keep coming back to this game because I'm stubborn, but it's real tempting to just quit and play a different game.

In the time that I've put in for this contest I haven't seen any comments like that.  But I have seen some good-natured whining about not enough of us Gold members being up there.

For legal reasons the contests have to be open to all members, Gold or not, and since there are many more non-Gold members than Gold playing in the contest you wouldn't expect to see a lot of Gold action on the leaderboard.

Instead of people complaning about the contest game, maybe before the next one you could choose 10 of the most popular games and have a survey on the webpage so everyone could vote for their favorite and the one with the most votes would be the game.

At least that way people can't say that didn't have a chance to voice their opinion in the game choice.  Although this game isn't my favorite, it's fun and I'm happy to be able to participate, nonetheless.

I as well have been monitoring some of the contest chat and I've noticed a few people mention they don't like 3 play. So maybe the next one could be 5 or 10 play?
