Do Pros Ever Change Denomination While Playing?

  Actually it's more of an opportunity to trot out a favorite old joke that I modified slightly to fit the current thread. Sometimes the urge inside me to be a wit and raconteur is overwhelming.  Sometimes I'm less successful at it than I am at other times. Bob

Well I'm sure that I will get bashed.. Being a winner using the Fa La La La La.... La la la la.... system. I always play 100 credits at .25 then move up to to the next denomination and or a game with higher bonus pays and play another 100 credits. If I lose I continue moving up in denomations..... Works for me, but I know that others will totally disagree. Well to each his own as the saying goes.

Moving up in denomination is called a negative progression and people have played them for decades. Most experts warn against them as it is basically chasing losses and one bad spell can lead to monumental losses.
 
However, as long as you playing within your mental and monetary budgets, what the heck. It's your money to do with as you see fit.

Pros are usually playing at the highest denomination that their bankroll permits. Therefore, I doubt it occurs very often.
 Well stated. And it was necessary to include the word "usually," which SM did.  Every pro is a little different from every other pro. And there isn't universal agreement as to who is a pro and who is really kidding themself.  When you phrase is as "do pros EVER change denoms . . . " then the answer has to be "yes" simply because some pros do this on occasion --- and one pro doing it satisfies the condition of EVER. One of the biggest distinctions between pros and non-pros is how they view today's score. Non-pros typically get much more excited by plus scores than pros do. Pros understand the swings and realize that whatever happened the last 30 minutes is a very poor predictor of what's going to happen the next 30 minutes. Non-pros believe in "streaks" much more than pros do and hence try to "ride the streak" by increasing their bet when they have won recently. Most pros believe such behavior is naive. Bob Bob

I would say that totally depends on the poker pro, it's more like a nature of the player thing than a fixed rule IMO.

I can see how a pro would view changing denominations differently than a recreational player. I would think a professional would play the best game they could find at the highest denomination their bankroll allows.   As a recreational player living outside of Vegas, the only opportunity I have to get ahead of the odds is move up in denomination when the opportunity arises.   It takes a lot of quarter JB play to catch up with one $2,000 DDB quad deuce with a kicker.
