Living near Charleston, SC. the Cherokee is the only game in town, besides the boats in Myrtle Beach.

There is nothing more aggravating then sitting down at the always crowded .50 DDBP progressive carousel and having sticky buttons or buttons that don't work at all!

I have found that machine maintenance is the worst I have ever seen at the Cherokee,
bar none!   I have complained quite a bit but they don't seem to react.

Since I am moving back to Arizona, I won't be at the Cherokee every again.  Ak-Chin
in Maricopa  it is!

I wish you the best of luck, Rayj. I have been to both casinos and hotels, and by far, Cherokee is superior, IMO. Overall, I have found casino maintenance dropping off everywhere due to cuts in staff.

I believe the word 'Maricopa' must be Native American for 'the middle of nowhere'. They do, however, have a wonderful golf course at Southern Dunes.

The definition of Maricopa is... Native american people living in south-central arizona. I looked it up. Does not mention anything about their cleanliness though.
So beware cuz we all know all indian's are unkempt.

"The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community is comprised of two tribes; the Pima or "Akimel O'Odham" (River People) and the Maricopa or "Xalychidom Piipaash" (People who live toward the water)." This is from the website of their two local casinos, Casino Arizona and Talking Stick. Their operation is first class and as far as I am concerned superior to many casinos in Vegas and Laughlin. Everything is well maintained.

Actually, the casino located just outside the Town of Maricopa, is owned by the Ak-Chin Tribe and managed by Harrah's, Harrah's Ak-Chin. As a side note, the Ak-Chin were fully self sustaining through agriculture prior to casino gaming.
The Ak-Chin have one casino.

Moving north and next door to the Ak-Chin is the Gila River Pima Maricopa Indian Community, who own an operate three casinos. Wild Horse Pass, Lone Butte, and Vee Quiva.

Twenty minutes north of the Gila River Tribe is the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community who own the two casinos you mentioned.

In my not so humble opinion, Gila River is the leader hands down over any of the others out here, especially if you are a Video Poker Player. Hint, if you play dollars or above pay a visit to the Shutters High Limit Bar.

I am not a fan of cruise ship pay tables, and that is all you get at either Casino Arizona location in any denomination.

Should any forum members, who are or will be freezing their buns off this winter decide to take Harrah's Ak-Chin up on an offer, rent a car and drive twenty minutes north. You'll find more bang for your gambling buck, better food, and much better comps.

Beg to Disagree

The Copper Canyon ddb at Ak Chin's paytable is 8-5-4 for
quarters with only a progressive royal. At Casino Arizona, there are two banks
of ddb progressives (actually three if you count the bar). Of the 2, one is
8-5-4, the other 7-5-4. Both have progressives for 2,3,4s, 2,3,4,wak, Aces,
Awak and for the royal (as is the progressive at Talking Stick though we don't
like it as the paytable there is 6-5-4). While we have never measured the
meter, the Casino Arizona progressives, including the royal, seem to rise
faster than at Ak-Chin. As far as Gila River casinos (Lone Butte and Wild Horse
Pass - haven't been to Vee Quiva) , their quarter progressives are for the most
part limited to royals only and at least at Lone Butte, the main progressive
does not have ddb. So I guess it depends on ones VP preference.
