He pulled out his phone and showed me a picture of 10 handed STP dealt royal on you guessed it, nickels. He's usually a high denom player and told me he was totally devastated. It's the nightmare hand as far as I'm concerned.
Am I the only person who wonders why anyone would play a game where getting the best possible outcome is viewed as a disaster?

Because he usually plays it at the half dollar denom. Hey a win is a win, but when you play these multiplier based 10 handed machines, you know the odds of hitting the highest level hand on the highest multiplier is probably going to be a once in a lifetime thing. To catch it playing the lowest denomination when you normally play a much higher denom is "a disaster"

Yeah, I also have this problem to an extent; hitting big hands while playing big denominations will keep you ahead for a lot longer. I unfortunately like to hit bigger on lower denominations.
Biggest wins in credits by denomination:
1c: 24000 (Dealt Royal)
2c: 4000 (Royal)
5c: 5000 (4 Deuces w/5X Double STP)
25c: 1600 (4 2-4s w/4X Double STP)

Congrats Roveer - glad to see some hits with the 8x and 10x. Hard to hit hands with those big multipliers

THIRDLY......(assuming this was HARRAHs AC) what was the total result for the trip as a whole (hole?)??? Your coin in, judging by these hits and your game choice, must have been pretty substantial!!! Fourthly: What is your latest/current status on our ongoing online dissertation concerning the Video Poker in AC? I have been under attack here over the last month and a half while you have been in your bunker licking your wounds! (lol) Help me out here kid! I need some covering fire at least....... Did you play any where else in AC (assuming that is where you were) during this "comeback" foray??

Hey buddy. Yes, I've seen that you are still fighting the good fight. As for this trip, it was profitable, but as many will always remind us, don't go by the hits that I post as any measure of my success. I've had plenty of trips where I had handpays and still came home a loser. This trip was a bit different, but I can sure tell you that the 8K royal really bailed out my butt!!! Remember the machines I play and the denoms at which I play require lots and lots of money. I've had to cut back quite a bit because of my unsucessful trips, but continue to enjoy more exciting, less frequent visits. Got to keep things in perspective otherwise bad things happen. As far as my take on VP and VP in AC goes. I don't have a lot of additional information to share. As everyone knows, I got to spend some time plumbing the depths of a VP machine recently and as a result did a lot of research and spoke with a lot of home machine owners. From everything I have experienced and have learned I still can't see anything that points definitively to the casinos manipulating the machines. The one and only thing that I came across (but have no new information on) was the fact that the CCC in NJ is vague in their language about VP machines possibly being designated as "slot devices" and as a result possibly not coming under the 94-101% payback rules that most other jurisdictions strictly enforce. I also know that there is a specific "chip" for VP for the NJ market, as there are a number of "chips", I think 8 to 11 that cover other markets. What the differences in these chips is I don't know but they do exist. I've also learned that most of the mid generation machines that we all play (I say mid-generation because I'm starting to see next generation machines showing up, so I'll classify mid-generation as a typical IGT upright or console, like the ones in my pictures), have very simple systems that communicate with the big computers behind the scenes. These communications really only cover reporting of jackpots, malfunctions, and the players card services. From what I've researched, there is no way for the back office to manipulate the machine without shutting it down, and physically changing the programming in some way. From my observations (hours and hours spent at the casinos, including lots all nighters), about the only thing they do is take out the cash, and possibly extremely infrequently make changes to the programming. Based on my "plumbing" experience referred to as "keychipping" which allows you to make changes to the programming, it takes 20+ minutes per machine to do this, and it would take forever to make your way throught an entire casino's worth of VP. As for my continued observations on the state of VP in AC, it's as far as I can tell, still randomly random. Now, this is not to say, that things haven't changed, I have been following one of my other threads, the "what do we still not know" thread in which I have seen it suggested that a more modern manipulation of the rng seed value may be in fact impacting the results that we've been seeing in more recent time. This is very similar to a hypothesis I suggested a while back about the impact of seed value on the RNG and weak and strong number strings. Let's fact it. I've been on one heck of a cooler for a while, but my most recent trip was more reminiscent of times gone by. All I can say, is that I'm still very much a student of observation on this topic, and unless we had more information on the whole NJ chip/CCC rules thing, I really don't have a lot more to add. As far as my other AC observations, I really don't like any of the boardwalk casino's, I'm pretty much a Harrah's guy. Ceasars has really done nothing for me. Some people don't like CET properties because of their 40 coin FH vs 45, but I find that having the flexibility of all the CET casinos, especially Vegas serves me well. After all, being 7* opens up a lot more percs for me than say just gambling at the Borgata which is a one horse town. Now, if I can just win one of those stupid million dollar jackpots, I'd be a happy guy. During my recent visit I attended a 7* party where they were giving away 10 prizes from 10K cash down to a thousand in free play. My host told me they invited 500 people, so I figured, well, I'll go, not great odds, but it's better than nothing. When I got there, it was more like 100 people, so I thought 1 in 10, heck, I've got a decent chance. Then I sat at a table with 2 other guys who were a lot like me, and then I thought, well, one of us should get something... Nope, nothing. That's the way it goes. but you have to keep trying. Meanwhile, I'm going to continue to rack up my TR points in the hopes of getting it up to a million points to use for a nice family cruise. I'm a point horder and was doing really well last year until my wife and kids started using them for food and room service etc. Really wish I hadn't done that. This past visit was a 10x Sunday, so I added more than 100k points to my total. Will always keep my eyes open for those things. Making maximum use of the players program is a big deal in overall stratedgy and at my level really factors into the big picture. Sorry I couldn't offer any smoking gun this time around, but my eyes and ears are always open to new information. Maybe someday we'll have the full picture. Keep fighting the good fight. Roveer

Nice Post, Roveer. A couple of years ago, I got up to over 1M TR points. I was on a bit of a winning run in Vegas, and my host there said that he may have to start using some of my TR points during trips. NO WAY, I thought. That is when I cashed them in for gas and Home Depot gift cards. I haven't paid cash for gas or hardware since.
I am going on the 7Star signature cruise out of NYC in August on the NCL Breakaway to Bermuda. I am going to stay a couple days before and after @ Caesars AC. You believe Harrahs AC to be a better VP venue than Caesars AC?
