Re: Had to share this one...
congrats!my friend hit a jackpot at the taj and some woman came over to her and said "since you won how about giving me some money?".i love their casino but i'm just not comfortable there anymore.
Doris, I agree with you about the safety factor. Husband and I were there a few weeks before they found the 2 guys dead in the parking garage. I also WAS there when a lady went berserk in the casino and beat the beejeebers out of a older lady for no reason. The security guards tried to restrain her, and she decked one of them. He had a huge welt on his face. Took 3 to get her out..But that can happen anywhere I suppose. The guys that were killed had hit a major jackpot and just about everone say it. 9:30 A.M. Since winning a huge jackpot has not been anything I had to worry about for awhile, if you do hit something, do the guards offer to escort you to your car? I would think it would be the responsibility of the casino to see you safe off their properties.

The security guards at the Taj have always been happy to escort me to my car or my room on request. EDIT: Also, if I hit a substantial jackpot, I will get all or part of it in a check. That has two benefits -- one, it's safer, and two, it's more likely that more of the money will come home and make it to the bank, rather than get lost in the casino. Of course, the main cage will always be more than happy to cash one of their own checks for you immediately without fee.... and I think they intentionally make you wait a very long time for your check to discourage you from getting one... but for anything over about $2,500 that's what I do.

It's just so WRONG on several levels to scream and attract attention when one hits a jackpot! I usually continue to play that machine while I calm down and get a handle on peeps around me. Then, I most likely will lock myself in a very small, private room and distribute my winnings where others will not have easy access. I also had the misfortune of a couple people trying to beg from me at Caesar's in AC and also Greektown, in Detroit. Usually, it's after they see me accept a hand pay. They move on when I shake my head negatively. No need to talk to encourage them to hang around any longer. A friend is ready to scream "SECURITY!". Good idea in theory but do you have any idea how long it might take security to show up! Nor do I, but I usually sure wait too long for a hand pay!

Jt, I am glad that if you hit something big you can get a check..that is the right thing to do. Back in 1992, I hit a sequential Royal at the California in Vegas for $25,000. No checks,no banking with the casino..cash only. When they counted it out for me, they merely did it at the cashier desk. Everyone could see, and many commented on it. Scared me to death. I immediately put it in their safety deposit box and called my husband to come from California to drive back home with me. Making a big deal out of a big win might be good for the casino but not so much for the customer. I hope the casinos have all changed their policy towards pay outs.

WHAT FUN that had to be, cook! It's gratifying to know someone actually hit that evasive sequential Royal!

Marie, just an afterthought..in the last few weeks I have been down to Tunica and then last weekend up at St. Louis Hollywood. Looking back at it, I really can't say I saw ANY security people anywhere near me. If something had happened, I would have really been in a big fix. In Las Vegas, security is more prevelant, in my opinion. I always will remember the Biker Week in Laughlin where 2 rival biker gangs shot up Harrahs. Everyone was ducking, of course, but the security guards were trying. They were shooting at EVERYONE and everyhing..Bike week is a BIG mistake for Laughlin..something usually happens and its not a jackpot!

The lady sitting next to me was going ballistic..I, however, had already been up 16 hours and just did not have the energy, I guess. California tried to take my picture to go up in the main casino..fat chance! I have alot of relatives that frequent The Cal..it was fun, though.
