Re: What oddball cars have you owned?
I've owned some sweet rides, like a '72 Cutlass SS and a Camero Berlineta (don't rememeber what year, probably late 70's) but had a friend who owned a Ford Pinto, ala Fred Flinstone, petal to the ground, lots of laughs.....what a car he had, lol lol lol lol
Olds Cutlas and 442 have always been my favorite cars. In particular my all original 65 442 I owned for 20 years. I still have my eyes open in case I stumble into a really rare one. The 68 Cutlas Ram Rod 350. My neighbor had a taxicab yellow Pinto wagon. It got him where he needed to go eventually.

Gale it was probably a Cutlass S. The SS designation was strictly Chevy, acronym for Super Sport. 1972 was, however, a glorious year for Oldsmobile as it was the first year the Hurst/Olds was introduced.
As for your Berlietta, it debuted in 1979 and was to be a "luxury" version of the Camaro. In 1985 I bought a brand new Camaro Berlinetta equipped with a V-8, black/black. Three years later I traded it in on a brand new Chrvrolet IROC-Z, again V-8 powered that was much improved performance wise from previous years. I actually special ordered the IROC-Z from the dealer in August of 1987 and I took delivery of the car in April of 1988, it also had t-tops (remember those?) and otherwise completely loaded. In 1990 I was driving by a Chevy dealer who had a 1989 Corvette on display that had only 2,200 miles on it and needless to say, the attraction was just too strong and two hours later I was driving home in the Corvette and the IROC-Z was left behind at the dealership.
It seems that I've been an SUV guy since 1993 and I got over the sports car bug. I do have my eye on a new German car and I may just have one come spring.

Wow, Ted, you really know your cars... You're right (of course) now I remember the Cutlas was an S. I'm really not a cargal, so to speak, I remember the Cutlass was a "pretty" green and the Camaro was a "pretty" blue Different priorities to say the least, but we obviously had some great taste in vehicles.
Hope you get your German car in the Spring and receive plenty of enjoyment out of it.

Your Berlinetta was probably a dark blue with a white interior? As for my first German car I'm leaning toward a Benz.

I'm not really sure about the interior. I do know I would never have white interior, living in Snowy Chicago, it would've been too hard to keep clean. I'm guessing it was a lighter shade of blue. Yep, sounds like something I would've liked.
"Oh, Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz" That's as close to one as I'll ever get. lol

We bought a 1970 GT, yellow, with a black vinyl roof. Took it from No. Indiana to KY and TN as early 20's newlyweds. Hard starter in cold weather. Sexy car.

My brother just traded his 300 series for a new Accord. Beautiful car, but the maintenance killed him. His was about 7 years old. The last 3 years he averaged over 5k a year in maintenance and no major components failed either. My wife loves the 2 seaters. We've looked at a few, but haven't taken the plunge yet.

I'm right in the middle on either a coupe or a sedan, the sedan's are just as sporty as the coupes and the doors aren't as big. Plus the backseat is actually FUNCTIONAL in a sedan vs. a coupe but I wouldn't be getting a coupe to put more than me and 1 passenger in the car anyway. Ah, such a dilemma...

Funny things you remember. Wife had a bittersweet orange 1970 Javelin 6 cyl 232 cu in. We bought it when it was only a couple of years old. She loved it and kept it as her main car many many years. My best friend from work had a 1973 " Green Hornet". Same engine. Used to have trouble sometimes with the carb auto choke. I remember reading the patent date on the bakelite part on the carb 1933.
