Re: Shutting down "hottt" machines??
I did not read all the post here but yea that machine is gone. They did not shut it down right after because the guy left as soon as he got paid (could not believe it lol) and I got on it an hour or so later and got dealt 6's for a HP. There were 2 100 play machines right next to each other. Next time I went back there was just 1
And yes this happens all the time. The hot machines just disappear never to return. Even if it leaves a big ugly hole in a bank of machines. We had a nickname (Aces) for this one machine. It was the 3rd machine down from the Fountain Drink. It would spit out Aces all the time it seemed we used to fight to get on it. Then it just vanished one day. Just a big ugly hole where it used to sit in a bank of 12. They finally replaced it with a High Limit machine we called "Silent Bob" cause it made no noise and it was a struggle just to get a pair. We thought it was just because it was a $5 machine but even when they converted it down to $1. It was no better.

In some markets, such as Mississippi, the Gaming Regulations require the casino to take particular steps when a machine pays a large payout. This often is just a tech opening the machine, and ensuring that the seal on the chip has not been compromised.
Last year, a gentleman won $500k on a $100 slot machine in High Limit at The Beau Rivage. Because of that high payout, the casino was required to remove the machine, and ship it to IGT for testing before the customer was paid. It came back clean, and the customer received his loot.

Actual thresholds for this procedure may be different, but I think Nevada and Missouri are similar, afaik.

In all of my play at Harrah's AC I've never had a machine taken out of service because of high pay outs. I had a 32k hit and then 15 minutes later a 2k hit and nobody paid any attention to the machine much less take it out of service. So my experience has been "no big deal". I asked an attendant once when the casino would actually pay any attention (look at machine, inspect chip etc) and she told me that it would have to be 75k before anyone would even do anything special.
I've had 2-3 Royals on a machine in a given round and nobody paid any attention.

I've found that a lot Casino bosses get freaky when any player "gets" hot. Changing the dice, replacing the roulette wheel, new decks, new dealers, closing the table, even shutting down a machine, etc. All because they are SUPERSTITIOUS. Same goes for the Slot management team. Many try to change your "Luck" with minor distractions to major mind blowing efforts to get you out of your zone.

My favorite (not) is when they send over a waitress when you are in the middle of a hot roll on the craps table and ask you if you need a drink just as you are about to shoot. That happened to me about 15 years ago 40 minutes into my 55 minute roll which I know will never be repeated. When that failed, they sent in some shills to squeeze into the table pretending to want to bet. Changed the stick several times, kept looking at the dice. Tried to switch dice on me even though I called same dice. I just kept my head down and looked at the felt for the most part. It finally ended when a don't pass better yelled for a 7 at the top of his lungs. I thought the table was going to kill the guy. They actually almost tipped the table over. Security came running from all over. That guy could have been a shill too for all I know. I was a cheap nickel player at the time and think I made all of 300 bucks. A couple of players made close to 50k. One of them tipped me 300 bucks which was nice and unexpected. The house closed the table for the night. This happened at Foxwoods.

Ditto. My largest VP jackpot ever was $70K+ and the machine was "inspected" but not shut down nor removed (Laughlin). I hit back to back Royals (Biloxi) 12 years ago and while nearby players were excited, the casino never blinked an eye. I hit $2000, $4000, $2000 just like that in the space of less than 20 minutes at Laughlin earlier this year and no problem.
Is it possible that some of the casinos that get the willies over a jackpot don't see very many? To me, a casino that routinely pays its big jackpots like an everyday, no problem thing is a casino I want to be in.

Yea my local casino will unlock a machine for anything $4K and less and let me play while they get the money. But anything over $5k (such as on the progressive) they have a slot tech come over and open the machine up and verify it.
These machines I am talking about that get taken out of play are machines that usually play well over several months. Then they disappear, I always asked what happened to the machine and they say it was put in storage.
We had this one machine that play very well as getting quads. Never really paid that many big payouts but you could play on it for a long time. It disappeared for a couple of months and then we noticed it was back but put on the nickel only bank. We knew it was the same machine because the "one player per machine" sticker was peeled off on the corner.

Good one. Luckily, my name ends in a vowel. I would have been one of the ones lifting up and tipping the craps table. Back then, I was still lifting weights. That was before a couple of discs decided to act up. Now it is just dumbells for me. OK....no follow ups on that one...All right...you can if you must.
