Re: 2014.....won or loss poll???
I won. Based on my win/loss statement, I am 16K ahead. At one time I was 20K+ ahead on my gambling page in my budget book. I played at only one casino ( FoxWoods )in CT. I play only video poker ( .25c .50c $1.00 and$ 5.00). Plus, this does not count free rooms, meals, free play, and gifts. I have not had a year like this since before 2005. I expect a rebate on taxes because i pay taxes on all w2 wins. So, I am starting out thisyear on last years wins.

Lost over 50k as already posted. Won't be repeated this year which is off to a good start with lots on single coin play. Percentage wise, that loss represents about 5 percent. Two horrible royalless streaks of over 500k hands each responsible for most of it. The rest from not being consistent in my play.

so far, with limited feedback, the results are evenly split between those who had a winning year and those, like myself, who had a losing year. the extra comments are good reading. i guess i am both surprised and a bit hopeful. i would have expected a greater percentage of negative reports. but, it is encouraging to hear so many winners. congrats to all who won and maybe there is some hope for the rest of us. i hope others will consider posting their results to get a larger sampling.

I hope I am wrong on the numbers of winners reporting, but in general gamblers tend to dwell on their wins and try not to think about the losses. Also I think some of us kind of " forget " about some of the losing sessions or adding to the bankroll from the atm. Anyway, like I said, hope I am wrong. It is nice to see winners that is for sure.

This well could be true, if you're not keeping good records.
But, when it comes to remembering "the good old days" of video poker, most folks, it seems, recall the great positive sessions, but forget all the disasters.

Olds,
I'm glad to hear 2015 has started out better for you.I know you had a pretty rough stretch in 2014, and if I went through that kind of stretch , I would probably question the number of winners too.
Myself,I kept track of every session I had in 2014.
I played roughly 25,000 hands, made 14 trips to the casino, and played an average of 3 hours per session.
10 of those trips were played on a multi point promo that turned into FP, and put most games over a 100 % . The promo ended in June so I only played 3 other sessions at that casino when there was another not as good promo, but a little something extra.
And I played 1 other session when I visited a casino for the 1st time , because of a sign up offer and for future offers.
95 % of my play was on single line 25c machines(max bet), and I played whatever game I had practiced before hand. I made 0 trips to the ATM and only played with what I brought. My profit for the year was small , and mostly because of the promos.
I'm not saying my way of playing is better or worse , it's just different others. Because of my bank roll and bad pay tables at my local casino, it only makes sense for me to play this way. But I do believe that playing this way is part of the reason why it was a small, but winning year for me.

The only things I keep track of are: amount of money I took into the casino vs amount of money I took back out; and W2G's. I play mostly higher denoms, so it is actually easier to keep track than with lower denoms because there are W2G's for every "keeper".
That said, 2014 was a great year, following several not-so-nice years. However, as is true with any winning year I've had, one or two large jackpots saved me. Minus those large jackpots, just about every year would have been a loser to some degree. Which should come as no surprise to any of us: the casinos are upfront about the fact that video poker, over time, results in less than 100% return if you analyze only your actual gambling numbers and not the comps, etc.

rascal, what you said is absolutely correct. the difference between a winning and losing session or year, comes down to a couple of hands.

Much like the Stock Market. If you out of the market on just a few "big" days during the year, you often lose for the year.
