Re: Worst malfunction story
Worst malfunction for me involves a casino I won't mention by name, policy of mine now. I had been playing all day, having a pretty god day also switching from machine to machine playing $1 DDB. Moved to a machine pushed the DDB game and selected the $1 denomination and started playing, few hands later I hit quad Aces w/kicker, I'm sitting there wondering why the machine isn't going off for a hand pay, finally figure out the game was on Jacks or Better. Call a slot attendant, she calls a machine tech and a shift manager. They together decide It was my fault, I must have not been paying attention and pushed the wrong button. I didn't get mad and considered that it was a possibility, quit playing and went home for the night. The next day I kept thinking that there was no way I pushed the wrong button, been playing for over twenty years and it's never happened to me before. I go back to the same casino to explore how it could have possibly happened and discover the exact cause and it wasn't my fault. Turns out this place has around 70 vp machines and three of the machines had the same exact problem, all Game King fronts, only three in the entire casino. Make an appointment to show the head of gaming operations, who is amazed at what I'm showing them, they then call the head slot tech who comes by and watches as I go thru the process of showing him the malfunction, both agree it was not my fault in any way and I should be paid after a review. Week goes by and I hear nothing, I was promised I would be called back within 48 hours. I finally go back to the casino and ask for the person I spoke to and was told they would be there in a few minutes, I inform the person I will be back at the vp machines waiting. First thing I notice is all three machines are gone, replaced with machines just like all the rest of the vp games. Head of gaming comes by and we talk about why they can't pay me, which is pretty much what I figured would happen in the first place. Once again not mad but a bit sarcastic. I point out that all the machines in question were removed and was told that they were the same machines but the front was replaced and a new program was installed to prevent the issue from happening again. I guess if I didn't accomplish anything else I've insured that it will never happen to another player there again, still wish I had my $2K though.

I'm confused on what actually happened here to get the machine to Jacks or Better. Did the game switch on your own while you were idle? This happened to me at Sam's Town in Vegas this year for the first time I've noticed. Moved from Double Bonus to Bonus. I do NOT consider that a malfunction though. Just bad programming.

Two things:1) In 2009 at the TROPICANA AC, there was a machine that had 8 VP games displayed on its main menu, including JOB, BP, DDB, Deuces, Joker, Triple Bonus, Double Joker and Aces & Faces. When a player selected Aces & Faces you were taken into a plain old Jacks or Better.....simply put, the program had the wrong Menu Icon married to the wrong game program.....it happens.2) Often, on poorly maintained machines, when a player touches the screen on a certain menu icon selection, the screen "jumps" or registers one of the OTHER games/icons on the screen, either next to or adjacent the one you actually want. this happens often and usually means the screen needs to me recalibrated .

Worst VP machines in town. They wound up telling me to play out the hand and made me sign to pieces of paper to get my dollar refund. It was a slot attendant committee meeting at my machine. One of them said, maybe it's good luck. I had watched a woman lose $200 quickly at the machine. I proceeded to lose $60 on it, a painful drain at a buck a hand. The joys of 9/6 JOB.

I've seen this happen with lesser bigger hands, I've also struck up a conversation with an older gentleman who I've seen play with the ashtray upside down on the deal button. He would remove it before each hand to deal told me a story of how he threw away 3 deuces and the next deuce came up when he threw it away. now he plays with the ashtray lol poor guy.

But you have let this happen 4 times to yourself with Aces alone??? I always take my time on ANY dealt quad. It's not a hand to be on auto-pilot with, imo...
Not dealt but holding 3 and have the 4th come out on the draw and not having one of the 3 hold. 3 times it was not my fault as the button was not holding which they verified 1 time it was my fault as I was playing about 1200 hands an hour

At Harrah's AC, playing DDB dealt 4 aces with kicker and machine locked up, wouldn't let me hold anything. I called a slot attendant who in turn called a technician.
The technician said he would have to change the entire screen mechanism.
I asked the attendant to call a supervisor to verify that I had a jackpot hand before allowing the technician to touch the machine.
He changed the screen and same 4 aces with kicker came up held and machine worked properly

The screen and memory have nothing to do with each other and I'm glad it worked out for you.

^^This. I've had sticky buttons and accidentally thrown away pairs and high cards, but that's about it. If I get any hand 3OAK or better on the deal, I take my time and make sure the buttons I press are the ones I want. The biggest hand I've ever been dealt was 4 deuces on a DW machine, and believe me, I took my sweet time making sure I held all of them.
