Re: Holding Kickers?

I am just looking at the 6 Aces with kickers I have hit from 12/23 to 12/26 playing DDB and wish I had been playing TDB!

I throw caution to the wind and I don't hold kickers when dealt trips aces, 2's/3's/4's when playing TDB. That is just me damning the man.

I am well versed in DDB. Obviously you didn't like the answers you got but we are all correct. The proper play in DDB is to not hold kickers. Yes yes yes the math says not to hold the kicker in DDB!!  However no one can play VP to infinity. I often hold the kicker when I have 3-A's and end up picking up the 4th Ace... If the machine that I'm on is running real cold I with often hold a kicker with trip 2's 3's and 4's... It's called gambling! there are many other special holds that I use in the game that have afforded me real good results as well. Good Luck in the New Year.

When you ask a strategy question on this forum, you will most likely be given the correct answer from a math standpoint.  These strategies are calculated by computers over an infinite number of theoretical hands.  However, they do not take into consideration the fact that a human being is playing these games not a computer.  Making adjustments to your strategy to enhance the enjoyment of the game is allowed, after all it is your money.  If you're playing a lot of DDB and it sounds like you are, it would be best to stick with the math based answers because you are going to need all the help you can get.  If you don't care about the cost, go for it.

This is all very true. I recall a poster who once stated that they do not follow the rules. There are no rules. Everyone can play exactly the way they want to without violating any "rules".

I do think a serious player should be aware of the ideal strategies, and the consequences of deviating from them if they so choose.

It's interesting that there are some folks who play double double bonus, and keep kickers, while there are others who play triple double, and don't. Maybe they should trade places?

FloridaPhil- That's exactly what I would have said if I would have put "rule" in quotation marks, like OMT did! GL to everyone here and may 2016 be filled with many hand pay jackpots, no matter what version of VP is played.... and how it is played.

DDB is about the only game I play. The strategy for me is simple. I NEVER hold the kicker. I will take quads with no kicker over three of a kind any day of the week!

I decided the edit this post to share something I saw at Club Fortune in Henderson about five years ago. DDB progressive quarters. Lady playing next to me held a 2 and a 2 only. I am thinking WTF are you doing? She caught four aces. If I wouldn't have seen it I would have never believed it

Never the less, I will still never hold the kicker.

I only play Bonus Duce's. I will always hold the duce's. If I have 2 or more duce's, I will hold an ace if I have one. If I have 3 duce's, no ace, I will throw everything else away, and play for the 4 duce's
