I believe the reason they give free drinks in a casino is so people will gamble more. This guy turned their ploy to his advantage.  Don't worry, he'll be back and the casino will get paid for the drinks plus a lot more.Â
Many casinos, including MGM and CET are starting to put meters on machines, meaning you have to play so many coins before the bartender can give you a free drink. It doesn't affect me as I play fast and drink slow, but its annoying. CET won't give Makers unless you are Diamond, or so I have been told by servers. I got it at a bar in Laughlin, but the Barkeep is a personal friend.
I just haven't seen such blatant abuse of it recently.

Paying for parking, meters on machines....What's next? I suspect those full pay VP games won't be around much longer either. Enjoy it while you can.

Okay, I guess I wasn't clear. My point was the bartender gave a guy playing three nickels three premium drinks plus a beer. It's nonsense like that that is causing casinos to lower paytables and put in meters.
I haven't seen any meters so I guess I don't even know what that is. I have heard complaints about people sticking a $20 in a bar top vp machine and slow playing nickels just to get free drinks all day. Oddly enough the one casino in my area that does not offer free drinks draws the best crowd by far. I love the casino but can't stand the cigar smoke.

Neither of those things affect regular players. Casinos are tightening their belts and attempting to weed out the freeloaders.
South Point made a subtle change to their recent promo.
They just finished a month of giving away random jackpots. Last year, anyone with their card in a machine when a jackpot hit got $25 in free play. This year, only those who had played a dollar in the minute before were eligible. Evidently, enough people just sat there with the card in the machine to justify them making the change.
Theoretically, last year someone could have sat with their card in a machine for 24 hours, played nothing and averaged $75 a day in free play.

Now I get the meter deal, we have one casino in this area that has been trying different promotions to get people into the casino. I'm not certain how well it's working out for them as far as profits go but they are drawing in more people during the week. They started offering $150 of free slot play Monday-Thursday every hour, I know this casino doesn't have meters though because all they require is your players card must be in a machine. I know the host at this casino and several drink servers and they are very aware that a huge majority of the people there are just putting $5 in a machine and sitting there getting free drinks and waiting for the drawing.

I suspect their ultimate goal is to groom us into total slot-kingdom....yep....the dreaded <bet "win".....I've seen slot players whoop and holler about bells and whistles every other spin.....blah blah hundreds of credits---every other spin!!!!!
200, 300, 400.....even occasional 1000 or 1500!!!!!.....
Playing $5/spin on a penny machine.....I fear that's where they are ultimately headed for....Notice the increasing flood of choices saturated with increasingly slot/keno themed games.....on the floor and on this site......
Only strategically play with money you can seriously afford to lose........

Seriously! Let's see a show of hands on this site......Challenge your purist view of the game....Keep in mind only split-pots playing in live poker against other players.........
How many of you would still play 'videopoker' that included "wins" that were less than a push???????

The Money Madness promotion will go on throughout the month of February and did not end yet as we are in the 12th day of the month. Last month it was the U-Spin promotion.
Only the Major Progressive meter ($10,000 to $25,000) will award $25 of free slot play to the Club members that have their card active on the slot.
The people exploiting the promotion were doing it on the penny slot games that allows them to bet the minimum as possible. I do not know how long the inactivity is set for, but they know when to make that minuscule bet every certain period. The Southpoint allows for members to also play with their spouse's card, so they doubled it there.
It is the Minor Progressive meter ($1,000 to $2,500 in free slot play) that triggers about 3 times a day, it will not award any Free Slot Play to those actively playing.
Mr. Gaughan makes it a point/credo to at least give away what he said he was going to give away, so $600,000 is allocated for most Money Madness events.
$3000 - $7500 (Minor Jackpot) x 28 days = $84,000 (unrealistic) - $210,000 which leaves about $400,000 - $450,000 left for the Major and the $25 Free Play prizes.
It will be realistic that the Major triggers 2 times every 3 days. Rumor has it that one of those penny slot exploiters won a Major progressive. People will get an idea when it will be a good time to camp out last year, but it is not worth it anymore.
