Re: Long Term vs. Short Term
Does what we think matter? I don't think so. Players play video poker for a lot of different reasons. Our games are different. Our skills, goals, expectations and bankrolls are different. We all like making money. Some of us are realistic about our expectations. Some of us dream of living a nice lifestyle sitting on a stool in a casino. All of us have an expiration date on our heads. When that date comes, we may or may not be ahead of the casino. When we get to the end of our lives, I hope we have made the world a better place.

And the circle, it goes round and round and the painted ponies go up and down.

The key to successful video poker is learning all you can about paytables, promotions, and casino marketing. They are the three-legged stool upon which success is built.
When I meet someone who claims they are successful in VP, I ask two questions. What is a penalty card and what is their home casino's comp rate? Most can't answer either, let alone both.
Best of luck if you stick around.

Does anyone know of a good vp simulation/ strategy testing software that is commercially available?
I've written one in C++, however, my programming skills are really not that fantastic. And I took the programming courses specifically to write these simulators. I mean, I get that everyone buys the math theory and most people treat it like gospel. But I also ( I think correctly) assume that very few, if any, have ever TESTED it. To do that, you would need to program a simulator.
I am not really asking for a training software, where you play every hand manually. What i am looking for is a program that plays itself, and where the user can input strategy changes, bet changes, etc. I did do this successfully using visual basic in Excel, but I had to make some simplifications that leave me wondering about the results.
Thanks for any positive input.

Sorry. Out of my league. I am a
with most tech stuff. I have always maintained that IMO long term results can be longer than one’s lifetime and some people are just really lucky most of the time and some people are just unlucky most of the time. The best one can do is do your homework before you play and at least know the strategy and pay-tables.
